As the maid of honor, your outfit can be a bit different than those of bridesmaids. 3. Tell the bride as soon as possible. 4. Good luck!

ITA with all of the above. You need to cut your carbs if you want to lose weight. What size is this dress?

You need to be in a comfortable dress if you want to enjoy this wedding and the bride will not appreciate having an uncomfortable or angry attendant.

Was the bride present when this dress was selected and fitted? What about the other attendants? Any of them having any problems?

Why don't you immediately go back to David's Bridal or wherever you purchased this dress and see what they suggest.

Maybe a possible solution could be buying another dress or a skirt and a top but you definitely need the bride's permission and you need to inform her of your problem with your dress IMMEDIATELY! Otherwise, you are risking ruining your friendship with her and you could end up ruining the entire wedding.

My fitting was done at David's bridal! I would NEVER Not get fitted for a dress, I'm NOT that dumb!

If you got the dress from David's, then it's not custom made. Go back and see if you can get another in a large size. In the meantime, start exercising at least 5 times a day for at least one hour. This can include walking, lifting small free weights and crunches and anything else you can think of to get your heart rate up. And you should let the bride to be know what's going on.

Re: Please, Please, Please help me...

I just reread your plea for help and see that you say you can't get the dress zippered.

You need to know that you cannot risk breaking the zipper at the last minute trying to squeeze into this dress! This could happen very easily or you could get your skin pinched in it or some fabric! This is a major disaster waiting to happen and you need to tell the bride TODAY and get over to David's Bridal!!!!

A shaper might help but if you are not used to wearing them, I'd advise against that as you could find it very uncomfortable and some of them make it hard to breathe! You can't risk getting sick or fainting at this wedding!

Are there any others in the wedding party? Have they tried their dresses on? If not, they should as they could find they are having problems with theirs.

I simply can't understand why anyone would "size down" when you say the dress was too tight across the back!

If you purchase a shaper, try it on and practice wearing it for a whole day to make sure it will be comfortable and buy the right size to begin with and usually people size UP as these can run small.

Re: Please, Please, Please help me...

August37, please pay no mind to the rude posters who are insulting you with name calling. S_ _ _ happens. Weight gain or loss after you've been fitted for a garment to wear for a big event is one of them. Please don't try to crash diet your way into the dress. It probably won't happen.

It's not the worst thing which could occur. A broken leg would be worse. The responses advising you to 1) alert the bride immediately to the situation; 2) going back to David's Bridal or consulting another seamstress or tailor to have the dress let out; 3) get to a department store ASAP to shop for a high compression shapewear (remember to take the dress with you for this shopping trip-- or buy multiple pieces to try on in the comfort of home. Make sure the store or site you purchase from will take the items back for a full refund.

A high compression Spanx piece (or another brand if you prefer) may reduce the degree the dress will need to be let out. If you crash diet you won't know what your measurements will be on the wedding day. With the wedding day being so near, my best advice is to hold at the weight you are at today and go with shapewear and alterations. If you should drop a few pounds before the wedding day it probably won't change the size the dress needs to be at this point. Dress sizes usually don't change until weight loss hits nearly 10 pounds, and that would require starvation at this late stage.

Good luck!

Re: Please, Please, Please help me...

You will not be able to loose that much weight that quickly. That's just reality. OK, so just find a really good seamstress.

A good seamstress can usually find maybe even 1/2 inch on each side of the zipper. One inch is pretty good.

Then you can let the dress out on the side seams, again maybe 1/4 inch.

Don't panic, don't wait until the last minute. Do it now. It won't be cheap, but you peace of mind will be worth it.

Now go ahead and start calling for a seamstress. You can go to like JoAnn Fabric stores (they usually have lists of people who do that) or go to several dry cleaners (they often do it). Just make sure they know what they're doing.

Also you might try to contact the original seamstress.

I agree with the others.. If this is true? Go to seamstress and they will let it out in the back for you.

Okay, I think I was a complete idiot for asking for help here. Thanks again, for ALL the positive posts. I asked for help. I've alerted her of my issues. Sorry if I'm so sensitive, but I only asked for help for weight, not criticism. As I said before, I already feel bad. I just need a little advice, I can zip the dress with help, I just know it will be busy, the day of the wedding, and wanted to lose a few pounds, so I wouldn't have to ask anyone to assist me. Thanks you all.

So you start the post at 11:30 at night telling us you didn't tell the bride and all of a sudden at 1:30 in the morning you tell us you "alerted her of my issues"...oh please, why bother anyone at all....seriously. If you were truthful and sincere you know that in 2 wks there is really nothing that can be done that will target your area of concern.

No one is being nasty, a good seamstress is your remedy.

I agree.. she is telling us people she does not know about this dress and not the bride and then she said she told the bride? Me thinks this thread is ridiculous and a serious call for negative attention from this Augest37?{#emotions_dlg.lol}

Re: Please, Please, Please help me...

First, calm down. There's always answer out there somewhere. But you must move fast!!!!

Most formal gowns, i.e. wedding dresses, bridesmaids outfits, etc. are made to be altered. Many of them have excess fabric somewhere.

Go to the nearest bridal shop first. See if they can do something to remedy the situation. It won't be cheap because they have to work you in, but they do know their business.

If this fails, find the best seamstress you can find and beg if you have to!! They may be able to add a tiny bit of similar fabric in the underarm seam and taper it so you can zip it. Sometimes they can take a small piece out of a seam of the skirt.

And worst case scenario, call the people who sold the garment and see if they have a larger size. You might luck out. In fact, maybe I'd do that first if you haven't already.

Either way, I think you should tell the bride. She may have an answer, but don't hit her with this at the last minute.

Good luck and God bless.
