@sidsmom The persons eating the plant based diet in this study, ATE FISH and plants.

โ€œEating a diet of mostly dark green leafy plants, fruits, beans, whole grains, and fish, while limiting processed meats, saturated fats, trans fats, refined carbohydrates and foods high in added sugars is a heart-healthy lifestyle and may specifically help prevent heart failure,โ€ said Dr Lara in an American Heart Association press release.2

@sidsmom I agree with you about eating more plants. I wish they would have compared the PB group with fish against one without fish. I'd also like to see a dairy vs non dairy study. I'm surprised that this study was discussed at this conference. The experimenters used some pretty stupid arrangements for comparisons in this study. The research was done via questionaire. They actually had one group called "Sweets." Of course the people in the Sweets group are going to look bad and those in the PB Group looked good. By the way, the PB group didn't use dressing, so it's more like your PB eating style which excludes added oil.

Look at the five dietary patterns they compared:

"five dietary patterns:

  • Convenience (red meats, pastas, fried potatoes, fast foods);
  • Plant-based (dark, leafy vegetables, fruits, beans, fish);
  • Sweets (desserts, breads, sweet breakfast foods, chocolate, candy);
  • Southern (eggs, fried food, organ meats, processed meats, sugar-sweetened beverages)
  • Alcohol/Salads (salad dressings, green, leafy vegetables, tomatoes, wine, butter, liquor)."

Re: Plant Based News ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽ

With the word getting out about Plant-Based nutrition for the reduction

of Insulin Resistance (thru the Mastering Diabetes book),

many Type 1 diabetics have made the switch w/ success by having

stable blood sugars w/ more carbohydrates!  And it's exciting to see

so many young adults adopt this lifestyle early on!
