It's been years since I bought a pill splitter BUT  what I remember is I thought the "deeper" blade worked better than the blade that seems about an eighth of an inch "deep". I think the short blade just sort of cracked the surface of the pill not cut all the way.

 

Can I confess?  The Pill splitter I have now is the one I bought for my pets at the Veterinarian.   It's deep, has a nice "pocket" to push the halved pills in if you are cutting more than one pill "per sitting"  It's best feature is the sides that hold the pill to be split are Rubber so they have some give to fit different size tablets And Hold it securely when you close the cover to split.
