I had a test yesterday, one of those lengthy procedures with multiple starts and stops. There was a tech and a nurse in the room, and the doctor popped in and out at different points.
Whenever the action stopped, the nurse and tech picked up their phones to check and answer messages. To be honest, I could have used a little benign chitchat to distract me and pass the time, but it wasn't available.
Is this the new normal? It was a first for me.

Speak up!! Tell them to put the phone down. Or was the test and your time free?

@PickyPicky3 I would have been chattering away, asking questions.
I appreciate the fact that they can work on mobile devices while doing your tests, but if I felt like I needed some talking, I would have been talking!

I tried to initiate some talk, but it fell flat.

It is the new normal for the younger generation. It started about a decade ago and now no one can even come to a staff meeting without every phone on the table or in their hand.
My worst was when we were planning my step father's funeral and the priest interrupted our meeting three times with answering his cellphone to talk to his insurance carrier about a recent car repair.
I was in such shock and then so livid that I was waiting for him to do it a fourth time so I could finally tell him to put it down. Lucky for him, three times was it.
It's just appalling how even the "pillars" of our society don't get manners and common courtesy any longer. It's just not there anymore nor is it taught.

How do you know the phone usage was personal?
Did you hear or see them talking to a family member?
My company communicates NON-stop via cell phones all day long.
Our execs check their company emails on their cell phones as well.
Our President doesn't use a desk or lap top computer ever. Everything is done on his phone.

It could have all been work related business.

I've never had a techician chit-chat with me during any medical test. I would never expect it.

The telephone usage may have been work related.
In the last 2 weeks I had two skin cancer removals. UGH. I noticed every time a prep was done, the surgeons would come in, look at the area, give some directions and leave.
I would not take it personally.
HOWEVER - I am starting to really dislike phones and make it a point to leave mine home when I go on small trips.

I've never expect techs or anyone else to chit chat with me during a test. I probably wouldn't have even noticed or cared what they were doing in the down time.
