Personal question- about teens and s-x- if you care to share...

I am posting here because I feel you are all compassionate people and I would love your opinions on his topic! I have a 16 year old daughter and as much as I would love to keep my head buried in the sand about teens and intimacy - I think I would be foolish to do so. What did you ( or not) share with your teen about s-x- and safety. Of course,I would love for her to wait until marriage but I am up against society- and I just want her to be safe- and make as smart of choices as possible- any thoughts? Did you talk to your teens about birth control? I grew up in a very strict house where really nothing was ever discussed-I know this is not healthy either. Help!
