I talked to two R.N.'s today. I had a severe bout of groin pain that lasted 3 weeks. I now have pain in my shins and the muscles from the knees down. I thought it was because I had a slow recovery from a knee arthroscopy.

Well....we discussed the fact that the Simvistatin I have been taking for 8 years may be causing my symptoms. I got into bed last night and actually had tears in my eyes from the pain. It settles down after 1/2 hour or so. It has been keeping me a prisoner in my place for the past few weks.

So....last night I did not take it and I am off of it until I see the cardiologist this week. I am hoping this is the cause of the leg pain because a change in medication I can deal with. If it is not, I don't know what's next.

It could be merely a vitamin deficiency or a side effect to a statin if you are taking one for cholesterol.

that was what I was thinking. Liptor

I have several vitamin deficiencies, of which the cause is not known. As my mother was the same, my hematologist believes it is genetic. I am on no prescription meds so that is not a factor.

However, my legs are painful when ANY one of the following is low...

B12, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, magnesium, iron, calcium, or potassium.

These are not all included in a basic CBC blood test...some of them have to be individually ordered.

Some doctors are hesitant to order them because of the cost...but if no other reason is found for your symptoms, then it is important that these tests be run irregardless of the cost. I thought that is why we had insurance!!!

Good luck to you, I hope you find some answers soon!!

Kc, I did have detailed blood work. Didn't show anything but borderline anemia. In the past, I've been very anemic & haven't been taking my iron for awhile. I was actually hoping it was that again. The doc said none of the levels were off enough to cause symptoms & further tests need to be done. I pray all of you who are having pain would find your answer quickly. I know I'm ready to feel better. It seems to be getting worse, but I have hope it will get better.

DH had achy legs the other night, so took two of my Andrew Lessman's leg and vein support, and said the next day that it helped. He is also prone to leg cramps sporadically, I think due to over exercising at the gym, but who knows.

I'm having a test for venous insufficiency in my right leg on Thurs. I don't have discomfort in my left leg, but for the last 6 weeks, I've had a feeling of tightness and pressure in my right leg, when I'm standing. I'm 5'7 1/2" tall and weigh 122 pounds...64 yrs old, and don't take any regular medications. Some days, the discomfort is worse than others; and some days, I notice it very little. It's going to be interesting to see if anything shows up on the test.

Well, I got my results today. Everything is good. I'm so thankful. I still don't know what is causing the pain. My doc gave me something for restless legs, and iron for my anemia. I'm going to try. I won't be sad to see the pain go. I'm also interested in the vitamins. Will check them out when we can afford to try them. Thanks for sharing, mousiegirl. NancieJ, I hope you can get answers & relief very soon. Thank you all for taking the time to post. I will keep checking to see if anyone else comments.

Agree. Very important to test for specific vitamin and/or mineral deficiencies not covered in routine blood work if no other answer is found.
