Pain Reliever for Knee Pain?

I just started having pain in my left knee.  It is excruciating and I can't put any weight on it.  As luck would have it, I can't see a doctor until next week.  What is a good pain reliever--Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve?  Would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks!

Ibuprofen or motrin.  They combat pain and inflamation.  Cold packs are for inflamation, not heat.  Prop it up when you can.  I am home now recovering from torn meniscus surgery in right knee. Pain in the pa-too-tie too!

When I have knee pain I usually take aspirin since it's an  anti inflammatory and will add a patch or two of Salonpaus which helps a lot.

Hope your pain lightens up over the weekend!

My advice is to choose between the Advil or Aleve.   I took both- -at different times, in the 13 years prior to my first knee replacement.   Both gave me short term relief.

Best wishes to you.

@Sweet Caroline 1

I wonder if I have a torn meniscus.  It hurts like he--!!  Did you have arthroscopic surgery?  Hope you will be feeling better soon!!!  Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: Pain Reliever for Knee Pain?

Yes I had that arthrscopic surgery.  I twisted my knee, just a little bit.  It was tender but it never got well.  Went to a sports dr and he took an x-ray.  They don't show much.  So I got the mri.  He didn't find anything.  I hobbled on this knee for 3 months, getting worse and worse.  It felt like I broke it, it healed back wrong, and I was walking on a healed crooked knee.  Thats what it felt like.  I called dr in tears.  He took a second look at my mri and found the torn meniscus.  Torn in an unusual place.  Can't be repaired, so he went in and trimed out all of the meniscus tearings.      A little cut on both sides of knee, little camra goes in so he can see what is happening inside the knee and he fixes it.

Maybe you just have a sprain.  Mine didn't hurt severely when it first happened.  I'm going to therapy treatments which help a lot.  I lost a lot of mussle those 3 months that I was hobbling.  Hope you feel better soon too!

Finally, I just want to say, do not fear the worst.  Let it rest, it could be arthritis or a little sprain.  God bless ya

I had a painful knee that swelled up years ago and it was from a weak hip. Eight weeks of physical therapy and I was cured. Sometimes the problem is coming from a different location that you think.Smiley Happy

@fortune  If it gets to the point of almost crying, go to the emergency room or Immediate Care.  Advil is my choice (I cannot tolerate Alleve).  Also ice the knee.  You can even use a frozen bag of corn or peas on the knee.  You have my sympathy.  I have rheumatoid arthritis so I know how painful inflammation can be.  Take care.  Cat Happy
