I believe it was earlier this past year that someone posted a beautiful writing/poem regarding Alzheimers/Dementia.
It was written as though the person with the illness was speaking. I read it over and over as it helped me greatly to deal with my mother's disease. I have lost it and am heart broken as I would like to read it at her Memorial Service.
I remember it talked about patience as they can't help what is going on with them.
I have done so many searches to no avail...and now I am getting 'not responding' errors on the computer.
If anyone can help me find it, I would be so very greatful. It was a wonderful aide to me as I dealt with the changes in Mom as the disease progressed.
Thank you to anyone who might be able to help.

Don't know if this is it but I've seen this one many times and think it's pretty. My condolences on your mom.

I found this poem written by Owen Darnell
Do not ask me to remember,
Don't try to make me understand,
Let me rest and know you're with me,
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand,
I'm confused beyond your concept,
I am sad and sick and lost,
All I know is that I need you,
To be with me at all cost.
Do not lose your patience with me,
Do not scold or curse or cry,
I can't help the way I'm acting,
Can't be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you,
That the best of me is gone,
Please don't fail to stand beside me,
Love me 'til my life is done.

Thank you... I will pass this along to my dear little former student who is late 20's and in charge of her mom, who has early-onset Ahlzheimers. Her young adult life she has given in order to be with her mom. Her dad is there too, thank heavens, but he is in a state of denial and he is befuddled. She may need these words...

With tears, I thank you. This was it.
How very kind everyone to help me.
I am so sorry you lost your mom. I too lost my mom 12/2/05 when she was 75 years of age. In addition to Alzheimer's, she had Parkinson's and lost her ability to speak.
I read the poem and it brought tears to my mom. The only consoliation I take is that this dreaded disease prepared us for her demise.
