I don't worry about it.  Drank milk and alot of it as a child, was very active in sports which was mandatory (this is the time when one builds their bones).

I would not touch any of those bone building drugs and I'm tall and thin.  So far of course.  And I have Barretts so out of luck anyway.

No mater what, a lose, lose.

Started my generic Forteo today and no real annoying side effects, my headache was a bit worse and my mouth felt a bit inflamed. I injected at about 10 15 and most of the symptoms are gone. I was pretty scared about doing the injection but my hubby was a great help

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

The real problem is there is no safe treatment for osteoporosis.  The medications avialable seem to cause more harm than good.  Much higher risk of breaking your thigh bone and rotting your jaw.

@SilleeMee    I am reading thru this thread and you mentioned Prolia and..never again after two doses...isn't Prolia administered just 2x per year?  If you don't mind sharing, why never again?

I think that is what my doctor is going to put me on.

I'd love to take nothing but the risk of a hip fracture is concerning.

@Mom2Dogs

I had some intense side effects. Lower back pain that wouldn't go away. Skin rash, headaches and never-ending fatigue. Felt like I had the flu forever. I had to get off of it. Told my doctor that I couldn't live with those side effects by continued injections. So I went on to the Reclast infusion after my last Prolia dose.

Prolia stays in your system for 4 to 5 months after the last dose. Stopping it abruptly like I did can lead to fractures so the Reclast was important to get at about 6 months after my last Prolia dose. Reclast is a once-yearly IV infusion. Takes about an hour from start to finish. Reclast is an IV form of bisphosphonate vs the pill form like Boniva or Fosamax which I cannot take the pills.

Read about prolia rebound effect.

I am not SileeMee but I took the shot Prolia in June & suppose to take the 2nd shot in December. NEVER will I take it again as it left my arm with a tingling sensation & I still have it after 5 months. I was diagnoised with Osteopenia in March & since I have Barretts Esophagus I can't take the Fosmax. It was either the Prolia shot or a 30 to 45 minute infusion every 6 months. I can't do the infusion & so I am just going to try to eat & exercise & forgot about any drugs.

Since I am breast cancer free of almost 2 years I am not taking a risk with any drugs for Osteopenia. The doctor that gave me the shot says the shot didn't cause the tingling but I read that it is a possibility of tingling or numbness.
