Do you think it is necessary to have a hysterectomy for a proposed bladder? This is what my sister is planning per recommendation of her Gyn. Has anyone had experience with this procedure?

It is recommended to get a second opinion from a separate but qualified board-certified specialist for any.major surgery.

Surgery for Prolapsed bladders is very common.

I know a lot of women who have had great success with their treatment.

I have NEVER heard of a hysterectomy being part of the process.

Perhaps there is a special circumstance in her case?

Absolutely get a second opinion.

Every case is different.  Your sister may have a fallen uterus pressing on the bladder or other issues like fibroid growths.  We can only guess.

Years ago my Mom was advised to have a hysterectomy for a prolapsed uterus, but not a prolapsed bladder.

Definitely second opinion by a qualified doctor -  my free opinion would be based on almost no current medical knowledge.  And even if I knew a few women who had current experiences, that's still so limited I would not act on my own opinion!

@share If you mean prolapsed, I would definitely get  a second opinion.

I had a partial hysterectomy, ovaries left intact, when I had that problem. That was quite a few years ago though, I'm thinking at least 25.

No one but a medical profession who has seen the patient and knows their history is qualified to give an opinion.  A second opinion is warranted, again from a qualified medical professional.

There are a lot more options these days. I would get a second opinion before removing otherwise healthy organs.
