Looking for anyone who may have some advice and have experienced what I am now. About a year ago, I started to have days where I noticed a very puffy upper eye orbit (not the eyelid) and under the eye puffiness. I didn't think too much of it, but it has progressed to where it is just about an everyday thing. It is only 1 eye. I wear contacts sometimes, but I have tried not wearing them, changing the contact solution, changing my makeup, sleeping on an extra pillow to no avail. I take 1/2 hctz too. I feel like if it is a systemic thing it would be in both eyes. My ey itself is not red or itchy- just the swelling. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Ideas? Btw I am in my 50s

Re: One puffy eye- help please!

I would absolutely have this checked out by a doctor. No one here - not even a highly-qualified board-certified opthamologist - can diagnose your problem on a forum.

I wouldn't take swelling or anything to do with my eyes lightly. I'm not saying this is anything terrible, and most likely it is not. But if the problem is becoming worse, you need to be seen by a health care professional. Kiss

Re: One puffy eye- help please!

My left eye started swelling during the night on occasion a few years ago. My eye dr. told me something was going on in my system and settling in that eye. She gave me Lotemax eye drops and told me to wash my eyelid top and bottom with Occusoft eyelid wipes. Drugstores sell them in the eye section. They are pricey, so you could use diluted baby shampoo with a warm wshcloth. Mine would clear up, but always returns periodically. I now have very dry eyes, but the left is worse. I am late 50's now, but have had this about five years. No clear answers, even got tested for some auto immune disorders. The Lotemax sure helps, do not use over the counter eye drops that say " to get the red out" as they can worsen the problem. My eye was not red either. I suggest you see a eye doctor as each eye problem varies.

Re: One puffy eye- help please!

I had a tiny white head cyst on the inside of my upper eyelid. My eye dr. showed me how to apply hot wet towels to make it drain. The eyelid is still puffier than the other, but it is okay. It is always looked at when I have a checkup. I have known some who have had to have the inside eyelid "shaved" in order to remove stuff. I thought that is what they would do to mine, but apparently the draining process was enough. Don't worry.

This could be something very serious. See your doctor.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

The OP has been having this problem with her eye for an entire year and does nothing about it except ask strangers on a message board???

Re: One puffy eye- help please!

Do you by chance have allergies, or rosacea? My oldest daughter has had issues for more than 10 years with an eye that swells, and it is related to her extreme allergies and rosacea. There is no warning when this is going to happen; she just gets up one morning with a swollen eye, or experiences sudden swelling during the day. Also with her issue, there is no redness, just swelling and puffiness. It is not linked to coming in contact with a particular thing, or anything she eats, and it lasts just long enough to be annoying---then disappears as quickly as it came. She no longer wears contacts due to allergies that have gotten much worse in the last few years, requiring shots twice a week.

Promptly make an appointment with an ophthalmologist! I would have had my doc look at this ages ago.

To follow up from my earlier post- I finally found someone who took this seriously and did some testing. Found out yesterday that I have a lacrimal gland tumor and at some time have had a stroke! I am scared to death prayers welcome
