Re: Olive 'bars' near salad 'bars'...?

The nice thing about olive bars is you can mix the varieties, not buy six separate jars to clog the refrigerator.

Re: Olive 'bars' near salad 'bars'...?

If I were a germophobe, I doubt I'd buy from the olive or salad bars or deli counters nor eat out much at all.

As it is, I've been doing all for years and years, and now I'm 73. My doctors as well as my financial advisors keep telling me I should plan to live at least to 95. Not sure about that, but I'm still going to buy 99% of my olives from the bars.

My store did away with the salad and soup bars, but kept the olive bar. I like black olives, not green, but seldom eat them due to all the sodium. I have never purchased from the olive bar, but did from the salad and soup bars before they were eliminated.

Builds antibodies. I'm frankly always amazed at the callous disregard with which "we" destroy the natural world, and consume fossil fuels like they will never end, and pour s*@!t down the drain, and spray every "bug" that exists with poison, yet seem to fail to recognize the importance of all the buffers that microbial life provides the mere mortals that tread this world.

No grocery store salad bars for me. The few we have around here are not well kept, and in my opinion, way too many germs floating around a grocery store main floor area to be eating prepared foods that sit out in the public arena like that.

Thank you, I now have a killer craving for olives, but also live in 'Mayberry' and they haven't got an olive bar in our local po-dunk {#emotions_dlg.mad} grocery stores. Or a soup bar. Mmm, sounds good on a chilly day!

Re: Olive 'bars' near salad 'bars'...?

We have the salad and olive bars. Plus there is a coffee bar with a special room to hook up your lap top while you drink. Our stores also does the full sandwich and hot plate meals like chicken dinners ect.. along with a special section for Oriental dinners. Not to mention the full bakery as well. Some items in front of all bars and counters will have items already packaged if you do not want to wait on someone to serve you at the counter. Then there is the full grocery store. The branch in the riches neighborhood of our town also has their own Gelato Bar plus all the above but bigger. That bar I did try and it was way toooooo good. Wine bar out their too. They do not mind if you sip a glass of wine while you buy groceries.

This is all one company which originated in my town with way to many branches here alone and all over East Texas where only Wal-Mart is still alive and in business.

I love the garlic olives at the Whole Foods olive bar.

I like olives a lot but see little point to an olive 'bar'. The big joke is that at my local Safeway, they included an olive bar, but no salad bar... Go figure. Seems to me this is another supermarket trend that will probably fade away.

I doubt it is a trend because they've been in existence in my area for probably 10 years now. Our grocery stores are expanding and creating several areas where you can get good, prepared food and cheeses as well as the antipasto bar. They have to compete with Whole Foods who has an awesome deli area.

My favorite store makes sushi right on premises and it is good. There is also a wine bar where you can relax with a snack and some wine.

The antipasti in the bar is so much more superior to canned items. There is no comparison. If you entertain at all, there is a huge point to having these things available.
