I'm a Pittsburgh native and visited SF for extended periods of time. Once you're hardened to the relentless hills in western PA, SF's a breeze -- and probably vice versa.

The more you elevate it, the more calories you burn and the more toned your legs and bum will get.
I started out slowly...but now I do a 10% elevation, 3.5 MPH for an hour. That burns over 750 calories. The same MPH with no elevation burns about 375 calories an hour.
I went to a Yankees game in NYC with a friend who is in her early 60s (a few years older than I am). She couldn't walk up the elevated concourse to get to our seats in the upper level...she actually had to stop and rest. We found an elevator for the rest of the trip up to our seats.
It really made me (and my other friend who was with us) appreciate how our workouts have paid off in "real life!"
I wish I could do that. It doesn't bother my legs, but it hurts my lower back, a lot. I don't know why. I don't have a problem with stairs.

I just ran there last week. Doesn't matter whether I turn right or left coming out of their complex, it's a big hill either way.
My kids live up there, and, yes, there are lots of hills. Same where we live in Northern VA. Also, I was surprised to find out the elevation by Pittsburgh is higher than most places.

from SW Pa.,,miss it. BUT always wanted to live on a hill. Wellll, I did. in winter it was 'climb' up to the car and take off the 95 feet of snow, then try and plow out to go down the giant hill, then lug groceries down the hill etc. Yoi. I really love and miss Pa. but now in va. and what a diff. used to live here years ago in Arlington, but I've noticed the biggest difference in my later hears. Climate, terrain and how it affects 'everything'! No hills and mtns. to affect so very much. quick question, have seen giant lightning bugs here already, up north they'd show around 4th of July. They're huge down here! enough ranting. just big difference in a few hours of going south.

You are welcome. Decided to remove it after fully evaluating something said by another member in their post. At times this information does help some with these types of foot/leg issues.

Northeastern PA has the Pocono Mountains. There are many resorts there, excellent for skiing! Also, the Appalachian Trail (which starts in GA and ends in Maine) runs near that area. Hikers enjoy that and there are many towns along the way to buy provisions for their trek.
