What a despicable thing for the Dr to do.

That's more than shameful.

Sorry you got caught in his greedy sham.

Sue in small claims court?

I just let things like that go.  I have had to learn to be less judgmental about people in that way.  I still feel like a door mat on occasion but I am trying to be a better person than I once was.  It is incumbent on me to be humble, something I am trying on for size.

Re: OTC Hearing Aids!!!

[ Edited ]

How ironic, the Q was launching this past weekend a hearing aid - E312644 - Lexie B2 Rechargeable Hearing Aid by Boss - $999.00.

I have always endorsed seeing a professional audiologist for testing, diagnosing, and fitting the correct hearing aids for me for about the last 15 yrs. +/-.  Aids do more than just amplify sound.  My current aids are equipped to select the best experience in a variety of hearing situations by accessing  specific programs within the aid,  The bad thing is that hearing aids don't last forever.  Over the years, I've been replacing them every 4.5-5 yrs. as my loss increases and technology improves.  I'm currently hearing only 45% in one ear and 30% in the other, unaided.  My current pair of aids cost $5,000/$5,200 4.5 yrs. ago.  I was at my audiologist yesterday and he sees a big drop in my high frequency sounds and the current aids are at their limit, so unable to address that.  He recommended replacing them, but the ones he wants me to get are $7,000 for the pair.  A payment plan is available - no interest if paid before a year or 12% interest if paid over 2-3 yrs.  I know hearing well is crucial but that price is staggering.  For the first time in my life I'm seriously considering Costco aids.  I'm so torn.

Hearing aid dispensers have been taking shameful advantage of seniors for years.  They're getting what they deserve, affordable competition.  Goodbye Miracle Ear, etc.

I agree with you and Miracle Ear. Back in the late 80's they charged my FIL over $6000 for a pair.

What? 👂.

Lol.....but actually buying OTC would be good if one can make sure they buy the proper fitting and diagnosis one.  Getting a prescription hopefully would alleviate those problems.

I would give everything I own just to have you back again.......David Gates of Bread

I agree -- it's certainly time for OTC hearing aids, even though my Advantage plan gives me some money off.  The only problem with the ones approved are they the over-the-ear type. I can't wear those (tried, kept knocking them off and eventually lost one). I need in-the-ear and they cost $3,000 but I had to have them.

I was diagnosed with 60% hearing in one ear, 30% in the other.  My hearing aids are from Costco and I love them.

Did Q happen to mention that Bose no longer manufactures and sells hearing aids but that Lexie continues to offer complmentary tech support for those already purchased?

@chlema

I didn't watch the whole hour segment of this presentation, just happened to come across while channel surfing, it was mentioned that once you purchase this hearing aid there is a hot line for tech support 24/7 for questions, issues, problems, etc.

I was just passing this item# along in case anyone was interested in purchasing is all.

@Nonametoday

I have about a 60% hearing loss in only one ear. With a hearing aid, I can hear sounds better but it does not help speech recognition. But I wear it anyway. Sensory deprivation has been associated with dementia.

Encourage your loved ones to wear his/her hearing aids at least 8 hours a day. Keep the brain stimulated.
