Re: ORTHOPEDIC VISIT FOR MOM

@cheriere
Look up Carex EZ Stretch Cast Protector. These are a game changer. They are great for showering. Best of luck to you and your mom.

@cheriere   Its totally normal for you to feel drained and rest is the best way to work through stressful times.  Your Mom is our kind of girl- getting her hair done before a major ortho appointment Smiley Very HappyHeart.  You were so smart to get the SCRUBZZ towels- I saw those on QVC the other day and they had a hunky guy washing his arms after a work out on the demo video Smiley Wink.  When I broke my wrist, I wasn't allowed to get it wet: I'd wrap a plastic grocery bag around it and hang my arm outside of the tub and wash my body with my other arm and wash my hair with one hand.  You might want to have or help your mom wash up with SCRUBZZ and maybe wash her hair over the sink while she stands or sits in a chair or you can wash her hair with SCRUBZZ.  She'll get through this, she definitely will Smiley Happy

   Yep, I broke 8 bones as a kid- I was a little daredevil and I did all of these playground stunts at school where I'd long jump as far as I could or jump from a high up fence or trip over a kickball while sprinting.  Ooh the 50 pound weight on your foot must've been so painful! I dropped one of my 20 pound free weights on my foot in college and didn't break it, but my entire foot was black and blue for about 2 months.

    Have a great rest of your night, Cheriere and I hope that you and your Mom have nice dreams and a great tomorrow Smiley HappyHeart.

Oh my goodness!  8 broken bones, you were a daredevil lol!😃. Thanks for letting me know about keeping the cast dry in the shower.  I know she won't be satisfied just using the SCRUBZZ.  ❤️

@cheriere  Yep, 8 broken bones in my childhood from all of my daredevil days on the playground Smiley Very Happy! No problem, Cheriere! She'll have to probably wrap and tape a plastic bag around it and hold her hand away from the water even when it is covered with the bag, just to be safe.  Also, maybe you and your Mom's gal pals can write encouraging notes or a cute drawings on your Mom's cast with sharpie pen so that she can look down at ithem.  You're a really great daughter, Cheriere! Your mom is in great hands with you Smiley HappyHeart!

Aww, you always make me feel so much better about things and give such great advice!  Thank you.❤️

I picked her out a pink cast and she really liked it lol.

I figure whenever she wants to shower, I'll have to help her out in there too.  But, as for her hair, she's already had me schedule another appointment for next week lol.  I think it hurts her neck to try and wash it in the sink here.  Plus, I'm sure they do a much better style job than I can too lol.😃

@cheriere  No problem, Cheriere! Life  throws curveballs when family members get hurt, and sometimes all you can do is help them out in whatever ways you can and have a good time and laugh together as they heal.  I think the fact that your mom is getting her hair done is wonderful because its going to help break up the days of having this cast on and really give her something to look forward to each week! That's so cute that you picked out a pink cast for her- I bet she's rocking it and looking stylish even with a cast on Heart!!  I hope your Mommy knows how many people are rooting for her- she's going to be ok and she's a strong little lady! Smiley Very Happy

@cheriere  That's wonderful to hear! Smiley HappyHeart  I think that the people on these forums are so thoughtful and truly caring! Its really amazing how much people are here for eachother on here. Smiley HappyHeart  Did the doctor tell your mom how long she will have the cast on for? You should have a little celebration when she gets the cast removed! Smiley Happy

Re: ORTHOPEDIC VISIT FOR MOM

@SportyShorty07

He just said to bring her back in two weeks for more X-rays so they can make sure it's healing correctly.  If not, they may have to relocate it again (OUCH) set and cast again.  If it is healing right, in two more weeks, more X-rays.  That's all he told us so far.  I'm really hoping it's healing well.  I can't imagine her having to go through that wide awake manual adjustment again!

Re: ORTHOPEDIC VISIT FOR MOM

@cheriere  Just seeing this post from you about your mom.  I haven't read all the responses because things have been hectic lately, but I wanted you to know that I'm wishing her a speedy recovery and for you some well needed and deserved relaxation.

@cheriere  I'm going to think good thoughts in the next two weeks for your upcoming appointment Heart!  I still remember my manual adjustments when I was a kid and broke those bones- it hurt a lot and felt so instense and strange.   When I broke my arm/wrist, it was a full on clean break of the bones in two places and so the doctors had to lean in and twist it back into place and put a pain killer shot into my arm and I was 9 years old. The doctors did a fantastic job and my wrist and other broken bones healed perfectly.  I think that your mom will be alright! She just needs to take it easy and make sure to give her arm some rest Smiley Happy.
