Good grief---had to go to the ER at around 9:30 p.m. I had a horrendous case of reflux that hit me like a ton of bricks!! I usually eat a small dinner and sit upright for a few hours because of the possible reflux. I take omeprazole for it but for some unknown reason I laid down on my sofa for a bit and when I felt that awful feeling creeping up my gullet ---thats when the "fun" began--got so bad, I almost passed out. DD found me and called the medics---kept getting pale and feeling like I was going to pass out and my BP went so low--the guys said--let's go NOW---then I got there and --OMGosh----threw up my socks waiting to get into a room and I mean Linda Blair type ----am so embarrassed. I haven't vomitted in DECADES!!! So got IV hydration and zofran--my old friend---and had labs done which were all normal--- and released to go home-- and all in 2 hours!!! What??? From the ER??? Must have been something I ate maybe, but DD ate the same things--Never have I had reflux throw me around like that before.. Geez Loo-eez
and now--at 3:30- PDT, I am at my computer ,as there is no way I can sleep right now---too old for this------Probably a $10,000, 2 hour romp,
in the ER---

@wagirl That was quite a Friday night! I can't imagine getting in and out of the ER in two hours, but glad you didn't have to stay any longer and are feeling better.
I am sure it was quite scary.

OMIGOSH! I'm so sorry you went thru this, how awful for you and DH. A trip to the ER is so frightening. I hope you are feeling better and that you have a restful day today. Don't you dare feel embarrassed, life happens and I'm sure they had had a lot worse things happen. I'm just glad that you are doing better and are able to be here today. I would really miss you Wagirl. Take good care and relax today, I bet your muscles are screaming at you from those tummy spasms. DH has GERD, it is not for sissies so you relax and take care today.

So very sorry you had to experience this!❤️🩹
Thank heavens for zofran and techs/nurses who know how to do what they do!
Very glad your tests were all ok.
No, I don't have any idea why this happened to you but I don't have to say this:
Isnt getting older such a pain? ❤️
Have a restful day.

Sorry you were in the ER and happy that you feel better now. Zofran is my friend too sometimes. Maybe you had food poisoning, it sounds like it with the vomiting.
Last November, I was hit like a ton of bricks with some abdominal pain, severe constipation. I went to the ER and was there for 5 hours. I ended up with a scan of my abdomen, several other tests. I was discharged home and threw-up at home. I felt like I was going to die. The only thing they found was a gallstone. My labs indicated an infection.
When I went to the GI doctor, they said they think that I passed a gallstone. I have not had a problem since, but the experience was awful. The doctor in the ER was super nice to me though.

@wagirl This may sound silly. I have acid reflux, too, and I found out something you might keep in mind. Of course it happened while you were lying down, but it happens to me periodically while eating. I know the signs now when it's coming. Wait for it-take a large spoonful of honey to stop it in its tracks. (I use raw honey not Sue-Bee or something comparable!) I sent for a booklet on acid reflux a couple of years ago-26.00. I still remember. As I'm reading I'm thinking, yeah, yeah, I know all this. Then I saw, nearly at the end of the booklet, the honey thing. I'm sure it saved my life a few times. In between prayers I took the honey and, well, just thanked God that I got that book. Just sayin' and it can't hurt to try it? But as I said, wait for it at the first sign.

@wagirl Glad you recovered so quickly and without consequences.

Some people think reflux is no big deal but your story tells a different tale. It can be quite serious. My oldest DD had silent reflux as an infant and it was difficult to diagnose. She was refusing to eat and by the time she was diagnosed she was failure to thrive and anemic. She also had slow gastric emptying so when she did throw up, she threw up undigested food she ate hours ago. It got so bad that she had to be taken off all food and regular formula and go on a medically prescribed amino acid based formula and was in danger of getting a feeding tube. On the prescribed formula she did do better but at one year she only weighed 16 pounds. It took awhile to wean her from the prescribed formula and she did struggle throughout her childhood and adolescence with reflux. As adult she is doing much better but it took a very long time for her to get healthy.
