I had both eyes done earlier this year and my ophthalmologist recommended standard lenses. He used another technology where I didn't need any drops (he applied something during the surgery which caused floaters for a couple of days). I paid for an additional test during surgery ($400 total) that allowed him to check for macular degeneration and twerk the final lens prescription-- well worth it to me! I eventually opted to get progressives (in lieu of readers) to avoid putting on and off glasses; I usually am glued to tablet, even while watching t.v.

I don't understand why you are making a big deal out of having to wear glasses for a few weeks til you get the surgery. Some of us wear glasses every day - forever.

I had to wear glasses for 4 months before my cataract surgery! I had worn hard contact lenses for 40 years plus to correct very bad nearsightedness....... and it takes 4 months not wearing the hard lenses( which change the shape of the eye) for the eye to readjust back to its normal curvature.
I got use to it quickly wearing my glasses and after a few weeks actually was glad I was free of putting those darn hard contact lenses in my eye and taking them out everyday!
Now after my cataract surgery in both eyes, I have 20-20 vision with the TORIC LENS that I chose to go with... I only need readers for close up. I was wearing readers prior to the cataract surgery anyway with my contact lenses so that is no big deal... It sure is nice though to get up and see SO GOOD VS being blind until I put in contacts
AND everything is so bright and crystal clear!! plus plus!!!

@hoosieroriginal I have worn sunglasses, expensive non-prescription AND prescription ones, every time I step out the door since my 20's and I got cataracts about the time I hit 60 and they grew FAST! So that does NOT prevent them entirely!
I didn't wear reading glasses until I was in my mid 50's so all this came about fast for me! And the surgey was a piece of cake for the cataracts!

@hoosieroriginal Don't beat yourself up about it. I ALWAYS wore sunglasses and at my last eye checkup I was told that I have the beginnings of cataracts. Go figure. I think the fact that both of my parents had cataracts has more to do with it than faithfully wearing sunglasses. Eye doctor said that I don't need to do anything at this point because they're just starting.

I see my eye doc every 3 months. I have early onset of age related macular degeneration. Saw eye doc last month and she said I was developing cataracts. She didn't see them the visit before.
Reading through your posts has helped relieve some anxiety. Thank you!

Yes, I also have worn sunglasses for years and years....even on cloudy days! I got the cataracts....my husband who never wears sunglasses has yet to get cataracts? It just happens!

Be thankful there is something to be done and you can see better. one of my eyes is crossed and no surgery at 5 could fix it so I have to be careful.
