I am an Epileptic. Thank you for bringing this awareness.
It's not an easy disease to live with.
No disease is, but Epilepsy isn't talked about much.

My son has epilepsy. You are 100% correct. It is not easy to live with. Breakthroughs happen even with proper care.
I have my entire house "decorated" with purple in November.
All my family and friends are aware, and they tell everyone to wear purple for epilepsy awareness. Every little bit of advancement can only help people who suffer with epilepsy everyday!
My best to you! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for bringing the awareness mtnbikegirl!
My best to your son!
Hopefully one day this insidious disease will be cured!
Let your son know he is not alone in this.
There are many people suffering from this disease and we and the families of sufferers are all in this together!

One of my family members had seizures so I know what many of you are dealing with. My heart goes out to everyone who is touched with this disorder.

Thanks bigsister!
Research, research, research! A lot of famous people are stepping up and walking for epilepsy. Maybe that will bring more attention; hence, more funding to find a cure.
I hope so...

Me, too. Agree with all your points.
As others have said, research, research, research.

My seizures started at 16. Don't know why 16, except that I took a hard fall on a gym floor which knocked me out 2 years earlier. Who knows?
My new neuro wants me to change meds, as I'm now having waking seizures that are like large joint twitches once in a while in the evening. Geesh! At 67 I don't even want to think about changing meds, as the one he wants to put me on will cause weight gain and puffiness. Still thinking about it, but suppose I'm going to end up agreeing with him.

My son is on Keppra XR and Topamax. We had to lessen the dosage of Topamax because it was making him so sleepy. He was diagnosed at the age of 10. No rhyme or reason with him either. No family history. He has two older siblings-nothing.
One day, he was found walking around the wrong wing of the elementary school-incoherent with an intense headache. We took him to the ER where he had his first seizure. No falls. No illness before that. It's been a rollercoaster ride since (6 years later).
More people I meet tell me they didn't have any family history...that's why they need to know the etiology (cause).
Thanks for sharing your stories.

No family history and I've had it since the age of 24 or so. More research is needed !!!
