Five weeks ago, i had surgery on my wrist. I developed carpal tunnel syndrome, had a torn ligament and inflammation thathad to be removed. The surgery was on my right hand and im right handed. This required me to be in a cast that went from the top of my hand up and over my elbow.I had a lot of pain and swelling.During this time i am having to use my left hand to do everything. As time has gone on i am able to assist with my right hand, and my physical therapy is going slow but well. The first few weeks i was alone and struggled greatly. There were many things i could not do,and still have difficulty with. I understand that we all have to just push through things in life sometimes. This experience made me feel isolated somehow, and im not feeling like myself yet.

You will get there, patience is the key and you will find ways to do things. I had the same thing done, with a cast and no one to help me out during the day. I was very creative and figured out how to do almost everything on my own. Be easy on yourself.

I had it done on both hands and it is painful. Just be nice to yourself and its okay to go slow, it won't be like that forever and I remember being so glad that they didn't hurt anymore!

Its also kind of interesting to see what things we come up with to compensate for only using one hand.

I hope you feel better each day and be especially nice to yourself.

I think its easy to get drepressed and not feel like ourselves when we are recovering and may be more isolated than usual. Just tell yourself you will get there and you are still the same person, just extra sore and more limited right now.

Give yourself a gentle hug!

That is a rough surgery and takes a while to recuperate from it. One thing that happens when we have something that totally takes us down with our everyday things we discover what we are made of and find out we are a lot stronger and more capapble than we think we are. I hope you are doing better soon and up and running. Have patience and take care.

@sunshower, even when you have a mate, recuperation is still something you do alone. I get what you're saying. I had my second hip replacement this past May and I'm just NOW starting to feel like maybe this ordeal is heading in the right direction. It takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and maybe some meditation or prayer. You will get there.

Well wishes coming your way.  Hoping you  feel great soon.

I like to always think on the bright side, you are repairable with surgery while some get cancer in the hand and have to go through radiation.  Know someone now going thru 4 weeks of radiation on their hand presently.with cancer.

Hope tha thought makes your pain feel better.  Any time you hurt,  remind yourself it is not going to killl you.

Hope you feel great soon.

Necessity is the mother of invention... We adapt to change quickly when you have to. One day at a time, you'll get through it. Before you know it, it'll be a memory, and you'll be smiling and saying I did it🙆

It's a process after such an injury. These surgeries do  become humbling, frightening and teaches us about our frailties.  You will feel  better and  all of a sudden.  Praying helps alot.

This is SO true. Been there, felt frightened, humbled, alone-time and prayer will work! Woman Wink
