I would suggest seeing a urologist rather than your regular doctor. A urologist is much more likely to know what to do about your problem.

I'm retired and have SCAN (medicare) - so I have to go to my primary care doctor. I went to his office today and they took a culture - so I should hear back in a couple of days.

Hopefully it's an infection and you will get some relief with the proper antibiotics.
I understand about your insurance. My insurance right now doesn't require me to have a referral to a specialist. I can just go. However, I trust my PCP implicity and would see her first anyhow. I have no doubt she would send me on if she didn't know what was happening.
