Medical web cites just reporting that a specific combination of vitamins and minerals may slow the progression of some eye diseases.
Great discussion of macular degeneration.
The supplement studied was called AREDS2:
containing vitamins C, E, lutein, zeaxanthin, zinc, and copper.
Study spearheaded by the National Eye Institute published in the journal Ophthalmology in July 2024.
Turns out that these EXACT ingredients are all found in Andrew Lessman's ULTIMATE EYE SUPPORT with astaxanthin, which I've taken for the last year. [Home Shopping Network]
Lessman is often ahead of medical research.
His Eye Support supp is, however, not just for those with eye diease, but EVERYONE. Our eyes need this.
(I come from a family of eye docs.)

I applaud everyone who has already been conscious of the need for lutein and zeaxanthin, who are taking supplments from their local drug stores. Good job.
Now, check the label. On whatever you are taking.
I have a recent bottle of EYE PROMISE, someone gave me. Does NOT have all these ingredients.
Lessman's supps, in addition, are known for great absorbency.

This is not something exclusive to Andrew Lessman. I've been taking an AREDS 2 supplement for eyes based on my opthalmologist's advice for some time now. And I've seen other posters mention taking these supplements, too. My doctor suggested several different brands to choose from. The one I'm taking is PreserVision by Bausch & Lomb, but there are others that are similar. My doctor didn't mention Andrew Lessman, though.
ETA And yes, this supplement was based directly on the results of the study.

@shoesnbags Fabulous doc, applause for that clinician, as well.
That's why I lifted out the exact supp tested in the study (and cited the exact journal).
Your eyes and vision will last a long, long time.

Yes I've been taking Areds2 by Preservision for quite a while as recommended by my ophthalmologist and retina specialist. Also recommended by the N.I.H.

@shoesnbags @kze + all
I found the Bausch & Lomb Preservision ARED2 on Amazon, great price!
Only thing not included (which was not part of the study) is the ingredient astaxanthin, more recent and probably not available then (as a scholar I can inform all that a published study was actually started 2-3 years before publication, which is a tedious process to survive).
NIH [National Institute of Health] reports that a growing body of evidence suggests astaxanthin is efficacious in the prevention and treatment of several eye diseases. Astaxanthin is a chemical group called carotenoids. Might protect cells from damage and improve the way our immune system functions.
Recent investigations suggest astaxanthin might help in dry eye syndrome, cataract, keratitis, diabetic retinopathy, to name a few . . .

I had a severe reaction to astaxanthin. It's derrived mostly from shellfish and I'm allergic and no idea how it was sourced.
My symptoms were breathing diffuculties and skin rash and itch.
Please research the ingredient stack of any supplement. It's irresponsible to say "everyone needs this".

@Snowpuppy Excellent warning for all, thanks so much!
Probably depends, also, on "how much" astaxanthin was involved, but for some, ANY amount is of concern!
I've been taking it in the eye supp for over a year, so far no reaction. But everyone is different!

@1Professor. I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration 6 or 7 years ago, as was my sister. Both of our parents had it and became legally blind.
At the suggestion of ophthalmologist, I immediately started taking Areds2. So far, so good....it doesn't seem to have progressed.
I wouldn't trust my eyes to a TV supplement salesman.

Fabulous results. So glad for you.
I am increasingly being educated on, and appreciating, AREDS2.
