I have several close friends, and family members that are doctors. Have asked them straight up if they get money from Big Pharma for the number of prescriptions they write for their products.
I got a resounding NO from all of them. Think I will choose to believe them over anything coming out of any media source.
If you trust you doctors, ask them about all things connected to all your prescriptions. And do so before you decide to take them. Most prescription meds have side effects, and people's bodies react differently to almost all of them.

@hyacinth003 Unfortunately, you're right. No, it wasn't money outright, but the doc's sure were given nice perks. They were wined and dined. Suddenly the newest drug that was being hyped would show up more in doctor's orders. Payback? Maybe.
It was bad early in my career. However, efforts have been made since to halt these behaviors. I might add, RN's complained about it more than anyone and likely propelled some of the early need for change.
If it wasn't true, and so bad, hospitals wouldn't have eventually banned all perks. Rep's can't even bring a pizza into my hospital, anymore. Regardless of professional position, it's just human nature to play such games. And, someone has to mind the store.

I have had at least 20 Endoscopies/15 Colonoscopies and 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies. My question: What exactly is a Lower Endoscopy"?

Exactly! There's a website, Dollars for docs, Which lists how much each doctor gets for prescribing a certain prescription. You'd be shocked at how much kickback they get.

I took Cymbalta for a long time. It worked well for my depression. I don't remember having a hard time weaning off of it at all. I did not have any side effects from it.
I know at least three people who take it and haven't complained of side effects. One of them takes it for depression and pain and feels it helps her.

That's your view of what you call" traditional western docs". My view is not even close to yours and I will leave it at that. I have told this story enough times already on different forums here.
I suggest working with an holistic or integrative doctor and, if you can afford it, a Functional Medicine Doctor or Functional Medicine Nurse, who will help you get to the root cause of your issue.
I assume if @PilatesLover believes as you seem to say, who knows? You believe in alternative/holistic
/integrative/functional Medicine/Doctors/Nurses.
I know the definition of all those adjectives/verbs, but words like "functional" for a doctor/nurse? Pretty general term to me, no specificity.
Will stay with the doctors that have saved my life several times, those "not interested in finding my root causes", just keeping me alive. That along with their help bringing me back to the health and the physical fitness I now enjoy years later.
One can believe in different sources of medical and spiritual health, without putting down the ones that work differently.

Yes, obviously, that's MY view of traditional western docs. And MY view is based upon MY working in the field for many years as well as MY personal health experiences. It's an extremely passionate opinion of mine too. I know that you have been through a lot medically, but So. Have. I. YOUR experience is YOURS and I'm thrilled for you that you have had much success with your "traditional" doctors. Good for you.
I posted on this thread without Quoting anyone else to challenge their opinion. I posted to offer my own suggestion and insight. Feel free to post your personal opinion as well, but there's no need for you to go on and on, trying to pick apart or challenge MY opinion... if you can understand the difference. smdh.
If you want doctors to treat your symptoms only by prescribing potentially toxic drugs, that's also fine by me. I am interested in getting to the root of my medical issues -- what is causing my issue -- not simply disguising symptoms by taking drugs. Functional medicine providers do extensive testing that no traditional doctor would ever do and they also take into account the "whole" person, not merely a set of symptoms to treat. Feel free to google "Functional Medicine Doctor" to understand how they help people overcome their health issues.

@BirkiLady wrote:@ThinkingOutLoud Where is your proof that physicians receive kickbacks for prescribing medications? It simply isn't the truth. Unless you are able to prove such a statement, don't gossip . . . ever.
The FDA would NEVER ALLOW such a thing to happen. Worse yet, any physician and pharmacist would quickly loose their licenses! What are you thinking when spreading such rumors? Consider the repurcussions. Neither of them could afford to do such a stupid thing since they would never have a job again.
@BirkiLady....there is quite a lot of PROOF that doctors get kickbacks from big Pharm.

Quite surprising that some doctors have even gotten a million dollars or more for promotion of some of the best selling equipment or drugs.

@Trinity11 That was published in 2019, but I'm not familiar with the source. We'll have to leave it at that and have our own opinions, please.
