How about oatmeal, or oat bran, I do take Beta Glucan supp daily, which is oats.  Even Cheerios is good for lowering cholesterol.

@Shelbelle   I am all over oat bran!!

I make oat bran muffins every week, eat daily.

[Recently using Lessman's oat bran, with plant sterols.]

Also eat plain Cheerios with nut milk.

Re: New concern about Lessman's CholestaCare

@Shelbelle , just realize that many people on a message board aren't going to do a deep dive into the item being recommended. So, if you're going to recommend it and know of the possible downsides, you should include that information.

I really dont know of any downsides to any of the items mentioned except that Red Yeast Rice is a form of a statin which is why I avoid it.

@Shelbelle   Such useful information today, gratitude!

My HDL LDL were within normal range, when the triglyceride showed sky high (249) for the first time ever. That's when I had been taking CholestaCare.

Recent July blood tests (stopped CholestaCare months before) showed I raised my HDL (yay!), LDL the same (normal range), and triglycerides lowered from 249 to 140!

Now committed to my new habit (I was NOT an athlete or Exerciser) of 30 minutes each day (treadmill, cardio, resistance bands). The exercise is every health recommendation, especially for heart . . . wish a doc had mentioned this a decade ago.

1Professor, keep up the good work, exercise is so good for us in so many ways. I Intermittent Fast 17 hours a day for the last year, lost 32 pounds, exercise daily, so my doc is very anxious to see how my blood work differs from the last time, I sure hope the changes I made are beneficial. I really did it to help curb the arthritis in my knee and keep me from needing a replacement, time will tell. I also take several supplements good for arthritis.

So, perhaps in your case the plant sterols were  doing more harm than good, for me they have helped to keep me off of statins. will let you know how my blood work is next month. If you can keep your numbers down very naturally, go for it !! I am grateful at 71, not to have to be on too many meds as so many my age are. I take one RX for BP and that is it.  My DH at 73 is on no RX.

@1Professor @Your results from quitting CholestaCare do not seem coincidental. It's also possible that your triglycerides test before this latest one was in error. This could be due to lab error or to dehydration. Whatever it was, your range is normal now.

Re: New concern about Lessman's CholestaCare

@Mindy D   Thanks for reassurance.

I stopped CholestaCare earlier this year only because of what I imagined a BLOCKER does and because I was trying to reduce the high triglycerides. I had such a healthy diet and great supplments (ADDERS) I thought: what do I want to BLOCK?

I start thinking variables. Causation. What is affecting what.

I'm the daughter of an engineer and a medical nurse.

Later read several reviews on HSN that were concerned because their triglycerides were suddenly high on Lessman's CC. Not science, but interesting.
