Re: New cautions about artificial sweetners

DH's cardio suggested Truvia and told him to not use splenda at all; he had to drop 40lbs fast before he could have surgery.....he did it and I am very proud of him but it is hard to find anything without splenda ....he loves sugar-free pudding...but it has splenda.....he is not diabetic and finds eating small amounts of real sugar instead of fake has helped him keep losing. I don't know why plain stevia isn't easier to find if Truvia and the others are also bad. real sugar is sounding better and better...

My diet advisor says Truvia is OK, and I trust her and believe that is true. I use only Truvia and have lost 85 pounds. She makes a black bean chocolate cake using Truvia that is unbelievable.

Re: New cautions about artificial sweetners

Truvia has a sugar alcohol as its main ingredient that can cause GI symptoms.

Re: New cautions about artificial sweetners

I've learned to enjoy coffee and tea without sugar or artificial sweeteners. I like it much better that way! My favorite carbonated beverage is sparkling water with a squeeze of lime -- no sweetener. When I eat a dessert occasionally, I just eat a little sugar and don't worry about it. I think a modest amount of sugar is probably better for you than artificial sweeteners in large amounts.

Re: New cautions about artificial sweetners

Update. Twelve pounds down. Twenty more to go! Totally off of sweeteners, artificial and real. Bet the artificial stuff was making me hungry or setting me up for some kind of imbalance. In my case dumping most sugars (except some fruit) has paid off. Who would have "thunk it."

Happy Day! On a roll!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

This is my story ........... I hope this helps even one person at least research these additives.

I won't go so far as to say they are a "poison" as many do in the articles I've read, but I will say that I believe (based on my very rapid recovery) is that they were a slow poison for me.

All I want (as I'm sure you do) is to feel GOOD and I will do whatever it takes to get there.

This is an interesting post, as are the comments. Q4u, thanks for sharing your story, it is very timely, because the last few days I have been doing some research on this topic. So I guess, you can count me as the "one person' you've helped.

I am so happy to hear that. Knowledge is everything!

Good luck to everyone trying to figure this out, whether losing weight or finding physical balance. Good health to everyone.

Erythritol is "naturally derived, unlike some other sugar alcohols and is less likely to cause rumbles unless ingested in large amounts. It works fine for me. I do have to worry about small amounts of cane sugar though.

Yea for Stevia!

I'm going to a naturopath for my gut and the first thing she asked me to do was cut out all artificial sweeteners and sugar. Now the sugar thing is hard, but I buy a small bottle of Stevia from Trader Joe's with a tiny spoon inside and like it very much. Then I purchase packets at Whole Foods which I keep in my handbag.

After research, I have found that many people say there are differences in the taste of the Stevia, so if you're going to go that route, I'd just try the Trader Joe's, if you have one near you. (Zero calories in Stevia, but is a natural plant product.)
