@tansy

Sorry!  Just wasn't thinking that some don't click on a youtube link.

Now you all know what book I was referencing.  Am I off the hook now?

Guess I won't post a recent interview with Dr. Greger, then.

It's a good one, too!

August 2 - Diet Doctor versus Big Pharma

Just listened.  I could watch/listen/read his stuff all day.

At the end when he was talking about having the PB diet

as the default diet for everyone.  That’s why I get so passionate

about the topic of diabetes...heart disease is such a strong connection...

it’s a 1-2 punch of general illness. If a PB diet can prevent/reverse (T2)

or even reduce insulin (T1), having a PB diet ward off heart disease

is just a ‘freebie’.

And the default aspect ties into the argument of

‘...but my illness is genetic.’  If genes are already stacked against you,

it just doesn’t make sense to ’taunt the illness gods’ by eating a

non-plant based diet.

Why doesn’t everyone want this?

Shouldn’t a plant-based diet be the default diet?

Yes, Dr. Greger, yes, it should.

What do the doctors who know what the science shows say?   That genes load the gun but lifestyle choices pull the trigger?

Based on people I know who are struggling with their weight or "minor" health issues just don't want to change how they eat.  They figure that "moderation" is good enough, even preferable, but then go on to eat in "moderation" according to their own determinations about what that is, nevermind not accepting that "moderation" of unhealthy foods is still damaging their health.  If their doctors even raise the topic of diet and nutrition (and how many do?) as a treatment plan or part thereof are they even getting sound information?

As Dr. Greger points out, many doctors just don't know about the WFPB diet proven benefits OR they know (more and more are becoming aware) and they won't tell their patients to follow it as they say it's "too hard".

And then there are still many who really would rather take meds than change how they eat.  That works for doctors who don't want to argue with their patients and whose llivelihoods depend on satisfied patients.  I have known people who "doctor shop" until they find the one who tells them what they want to hear (or keep quiet about things they don't want to hear).

Don't know if this answers your questions, just a few thoughts.  I am sure there are more reasons, but I have to go now and do some stuff!
