My mother is a very nervous, anxious person, and has been a consistent worrier as far back as I can remember.  As a child, I remember waking up to her pacing the floor at night, worrying, or waking up during the night smelling cigarette smoke, because she was sitting in the dark smoking, and worrying.   It drove me nuts, as it seemed like such a waste of time.

Mom is now 84 years old, still worrying, and her anxiety has forced our family to make big changes to our family gatherings.   I finally insisted she take medication, because she was to the point she couldn’t handle being around the family, and we couldn't handle her high anxiety.

Medication has helped, but the anxiety is still there.    Just this week she told me her latest fear is a snake or rat is going to come up thru the toilet!    Really Mom?   You have a private septic system!
