I think  you need to read a motivational book .... personally, I like Thin Tastes Better by Dr Stephen Gullo ... just saw it for $4 on ebay.    Great information!

I  love the title of this book. It has jumped into my mind many times when deciding what to eat. I just went on etsy and ordered a 5 x 7 gold foil print with "Thin Tastes Better" in a fun font. I'll put it in a pretty frame on the kitchen counter. Thank you @Tinkrbl44!

I hope you make a point of getting this book .... it also has a lot of affirmations in it ... one of my favorites is "Thin is a skill".    You won't regret taking the time to read it.

Re: Need to stop putting off getting healthy

OP,  I spent my first 40 years doing whatever I wanted with food, beverage, lack of exercise.  And then it caught up with me BIG time, overnight.  People take health for granted.

#1. get a fitbit and try for 10,000 steps a day

#2. get a pet, or walk a shelter dog, or a neighbor's dog.

#3. write down everything you eat, stop snacking,stop drinking pop (soda) and mixed drinks!

#4. get comprehensive fasting blood work, remember your numbers, blood pressure, BMI

#5. I used to reward myself with food and drink.  Find something else and let me know what works better than food and drink, will ya?

Re: Need to stop putting off getting healthy

Katyq, Halloween was always my downfall and it was a downward spiral until after Easter, then I'd eat clean until 10/31 again. I made pacts with myself: "I will only eat candy at movies"  But then I found I was going to terrible movies just so I could chomp Goobers and Gummi Bears

Sugar does horrible things to your arteries, blood pressure, teeth etc...I am a sugar addict and can't have it in the house in any form. No syrup or jam either.  I allow myself a slice of wedding and birthday cake.

The ONLY candy I ever eat at the movies is Tootsie Roll pops ..... 60 calories each, and they last 20-40 minutes if you're caught up in the movie.   I throw 4 in my purse when going to the movie and rarely eat even three.

Re: Need to stop putting off getting healthy

Hope this little update from me will provide a small boost to others here-

I HATE to exercise, and found it wildly easy to avoid UNTIL I discovered rowing!

At present I'm doing rowing machine workouts at the gym, but I like it so much I may invest in a machine for my home use AND I may look for an old lady group to row with on one of the local lakes.

I'm doing it because it's so much fun, but I know I'm a little stronger after each workout!

@violann

I created a thread about rowing.  Concept2.com has everything you need for indoor rowing.  HTH!

Re: Need to stop putting off getting healthy

Hi sidsmom! That is exactly what we're using!!  Love my "little" Concept2 machine!

And funny enough, I think I read your original post and figured I'd never be able to do it.

Boy was I wrong! I even do better than some of the Jocks and jockettes that work out when I do!

@violann

YOU show'em, girl!!

I love watching all the form videos on the concept2.com website.  Another website is....ucanrow2.com.

It's amazing to see some of the pros have a slow stroke rate, but a sub-2:00/1:30 time...shows the power they have behind their drive.  It's all about the legs, yes?!  And a lower damper setting...that's key, as well.
