So true. And it was an overnight stay in the hospital with LOTS of ice cream! You'd think today it would be much easier....

I had mine out at age 7, and it was exactly like yours, Gazelle...overnight stay in the hospital and lots of ice cream and jello with whipped cream!
Luvpoos, be sure that you keep yourself well hydrated after the surgery for several days. That will help with healing. Also, plan to take at least a few off work after the surgery and just lie around. Don't go back to work right away. Tonsillectomies as an adult may be a little tougher for the surgeon, as due to chronic sore throats over the years, the tonsils of an adult may have some scar tissue on them...so they are a little tougher to take out.
Good luck with your surgery! You'll do fine if you follow your surgeon's advice.

Had mine out at 18. It was rough & had to have sutures in one side due to bleeding. I had a hard time swallowing for a couple weeks. It was a cake walk compared to my shattered ankle at 42.

I had mine out when I was 27. I had chronic tonsillitis. It hurt for a while, but I felt so much better afterwards. No more sore throats and I had so much more energy. I hadn't realized that the constant bouts with tonsillitis had zapped my energy to the extent that it did.
