We have several medical professionals incl. MDs here that use the neti pot at the first sign of any sinus problems. I've been stuffed and feeling tense about not having clear breathing these past few days and get up and flush with the neti most nights, twice. Love the option of the neti pot! MD in the family does not use any drugs unless absolutely necessary, such as if that sinus trouble persists and becomes an infection, but usually the neti helps the body get through it naturally.
We both had what seemed like a touch of flu (no vomiting, but chills like you wouldn't believe) and took Advil for the joint pain. Again, we rarely take any pills, so when we do, maybe that's why they seem so effective. The Advil really was a pain relief, like magic. - Bird
The Bird! I miss 'talking' to you about diet & stuff!
Sorry you're sick! I've got a little bit of the upper respiratory stuff this year, as well....and I was so good about washing hands, etc. Every year this time I get it. I think I might be allergic to pine or something!!
When I saw this post, I JUST got an email from the NeilMed website w/ a 25% off-free shipping notification! I know you can buy the kit @ your local Walmart, but it's cheaper through the website...plus they have a cute docking station where you can store your saline packets.
I highly recommend the nasal rinse...especially the squeeze bottle versus the neti pot. Going forward, I'm going to make it a habit to rinse every day...especially during the allergy season before I see signs. Be proactive...it's natural...no harm, no foul! Here's the link to the website. Stay healthy, Girlie!!
sidsmom, yeah I miss you too! I do read your posts now and then. Interesting and helpful as usual.
I'll blame DH on my getting sick. He comes home from work (Woe is me! Cough cough cough all over the wife...I'm sick make me soup cough cough cough right in my face.) Ah, love! He rides public transportation and has to walk around the city and eat at hugely public restaurants. Normally the most exposure I have is going to the supermarket, and I am good about washing hands and disinfecting the shopping carts. I hug my chickens. I suppose they have e coli but I never caught anything from them lol! I even adjust the ph of their food and add herbs to their diet so they aren't likely to get sick.
We will try the NeilMed thing. I am very happy to be aware of options. Honestly DH used to get serious sinus infections 2-3 times a year, requiring antibiotics and steroids, but now, he rarely gets sick (keeping clean with usual neti potting) maybe once every 3 years. The NeilMed will add to our preventive care regimen. - Bird
BTW there sure are some know-it-all snotty people around here today! And...will start the bi-annual juice fast tomorrow! Yay! freedom from my addictive food cravings!

Whatever your doctor prescribed. If it doesn't work, let the doc know ASAP.

I've wanted that little docking station for a while now. LOL I drain it in my dish washer. One day I'll buy the official drainer ;o)
Giggle...in the dishwasher! If you weren't paying attention, that little thing could be your new turkey baster!
HA! I missed that one. Thanks for letting me know it has multiple uses. I think we've been watching QVC too long. We are always looking to get the most value out of all of our purchases ;o)

With all due respect to those who said "See a doctor!", I'm adding this: Six months ago, I would've rolled my eyes and said the exact same thing. Not now.
I worked for almost 20 years at the same job & naturally, had benefits. (But, no pension, no retirement, stupid me for staying so long!) But, I recently quit and moved thousands of miles away to be near family, and have been jobless for months now. No job, no medical benefits, and I apparently don't qualify for any assistance. Even a walk in clinic requires a payment of almost $150, so, helpful tips like those found here and elsewhere are now appreciated.
Anyway, a little perspective is a good thing.
Hi, Sabatini2. I'm so sorry to read about your situation, and I hope things improve soon. Please check with an ACA adviser to see if you can get health care coverage, or check to see if you have a free clinic in your locale. I know it's hard, and complex, and I wish you the very, very best.
I think I can understand your point, but at the same time I've seen some terribly dangerous medical advice dispensed on these forums. I think some posters don't realize this, probably haven't seen it happen, so I can understand why they might feel it's all safe and acceptable. "Healthcare-by-internet" has lulled some people into thinking they can get what they need just by going online, but it's not true. Our well-being is far too precious.
Even if someone doesn't have a physician, so many of these questions can be answered at no charge by a local pharmacist much more appropriately and safely than by people on an anonymous chat board.

Give your 'girls' the best. I'm a farm girl @ heart & I miss the chickens the most. Raised them from start to end.
Juicefest! Nice way to start the new year. I have a thought with addictions. I happened upon this site..."The Protective Diet". Of course, it's a plant based diet, but she spins it further by removing ALL food additives, food colorings, 'spices'....any of the code words for chemically enhanced additives to foods...even the 'healthy' ones! Even TEA has flavorings in it! She has a weekly live webcast & has archived videos that will really teaches you about cooking, meal planning, money saving, etc. There's a FB page & tons of testimonies. She has a 30-day detox or tastebud reprogramming that will free you from the cravings...once those additives are gone, so are the cravings. She has a YouTube channel w/ lots of videos, but here's an hour-long introductory video...it might be something you like (different ideas to shake it up!!): Protective Diet

This sounds very similar to The Whole 30. I just finished one in November. It is eye opening what is in products that you normally don't look at the ingredient list (like bottled lemon juice!). It's only 30 days, so it was doable for me (single, no kids, no pets to tempt me).
I've never felt better and I haven't gone back to sugar, which I was not expecting.

Thank you. I'll check that out. Sorry I left in the long quotes last time. Forgot to consolidate. - Bird
