I drink what I want during the prep.... Once I start to dryheave then I am done.... This prep gave me the chills and shakes - can't be good for my blood pressure and no sleep that night... Was in bethroom for almost 7 hours pure hell....There has to be a better way....

I recently had a colonoscopy and had to drink the Colyte. I got it colder than cold and, per the nurse's advice, poured each portion in a glass and sucked it down quickly with a straw. Also on advice, after each dose I sucked on a hard candy (a caramel flavored, not an actual caramel as that would have been solid food), for a minute or two and the taste went away.

To me, it really wasn't all that terrible!

Did you take the Suprep @hondagirl?  One positive thing about the Suprep for me is that I started at 5:00 and by 9:00 I was able to go to bed and sleep.  Then I got up at 4:00 or 5:00 (don't remember which) to take the second dose for my colonoscopy at 8:00.

The prep my gastro doc had me do for my 2 most recent colonoscopies (I'm on the every 5 year plan) was to dissolve a container of Miralax in a large bottle of sugar free lemon-lime Gatorade & take some Dulcolax.  The test I had in 2006, he had me use GoLytely, which I used the pineapple flavor packet in the big jug of powder & I could only get down about 2/3rds of the big jug, which thankfully was enough, but even chilled in the fridge, I'd drink a glass of the GoLytely & it was all I could do to keep it down.  At least with the Gatorade & Miralax, I can drink it & my tummy doesn't want to bounce it right back out !

Re: Nasty Supprep

[ Edited ]

My poor husband has had to do these preps twice in 2 weeks. The first time(colonscopy) he was given stuff to drink at 5PM and at midnight. Poor guy was up all night . That was awful and he was still going all the next day.

For his surgery prep they gave him the gallon of golytely to drink - he started it in the morning and was done by noon.By the time we went to bed he was completely done with the effects and was able to sleep well. However, for the surgical prep he was only allowed full liquids on Saturday - then clear liquids on Sunday until 6 PM then only water until midnight , then nothing. So, after 2 days of only liquids he certainly should have been well cleared out.

Drinking with a straw helps me.  Then I don't get as much nasty taste in my mouth.

When I have to swallow something nasty, I hold my breath, swallow the liquid, and then suck quickly on an orange wedge.

Anyone use Supprep for colonoscopy.... Need to take it again and the taste is NASTY.... Tried to mask it with anything - do not want to throw up again. Any suggestions???

@hondagirl   If you add three crystal lite packets to the gallon in lemon aid flavor....and chill it overnight.....then drink it with a straw in gulps as fast as you can per 8oz serving.  I found it tasted great with the crystal lite.

I diluted mine (both doses) with ginger ale & drank it through a straw..it went down so easy, no chemical taste...that prep has the least volume to drink & my gi Dr's office gave it to me...the pharmacy price was over $30. & the prep worked perfectly, for me!
