Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

Yeah, didn't think it was fair of me to go POOF before given you a chance to respond Spurt. But in case your trying to keep me posting to increase the odds of me jinxing the Boys, that was your last shot. LOL

Thanks for the congrat. A Texas team is a team that has me rooting for them. Simple enough.. LOL Only good thing I'll ever say about Joe Gibbs is he knew where to look for the best players.

JJ Wyatt is awesome. I have his jersey. It's about 4 sizes too large for me, but I got a really good price on it. LOL I'm curious to see what type of player his brother becomes.

Now.....cross arms, blink and......POOF. Enjoy the games everyone.

Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

So long Yellowrose and good luck this week!

The Texans look to be awesome if they can get any reasonable performance out of Clowney next year opposite JJ Watt. Those two guys on the field together performing at a high level will be impossible to contain. I expect to see the Texans make some kind of bold move to get a QB this year. They may target Sanchez or Hoyer as free agents, or maybe try to trade for a guy who they like who's currently a backup, but if they get a competent QB, they'll be a playoff contender in a big way. Maybe they'll import a guy from Canada, but they've got to resolve the QB position this off season.

Well, hello there Spurt! Why aren't you ranting & raving about Suh's slap on the wrist for intentionally stepping on Rodger's leg, not once, but twice. I'll bet if it had been a Cowboy's player the story would be quite different Suh's appeal is "politics" if I ever saw it. $70,000 is a drop in the bucket to him. Of course, being in the game didn't help the Lions that much anyway. Romo went down six times, but he didn't stay down!

BLONDIE....omg, where have you been?? Unless I've been missing you, I don't check in here as often anymore. So good to see ya. Yes, that 4th and 6 was gutsy, and the 4th and goal was gutsy. Like I said, that's why the score was 24-20. We took chances. There's no tomorrow so play to win, and if you don't win, at least you went down fighting. You know, if only the refs had called that running into our punter penalty as they should had, if only Witten hadn't drawn that so called holding penalty, if only the defensive holding penalty on Witten HAD been called, who knows how many points we would had scored. See, the Lions aren't the only ones who had "what if's". We definitely didn't play our best. Maybe nerves kicked in, but we need to bring our A game next week. I'm just a bundle of nerves.

qvcfreak, Dez being on the field was so important that it wasn't even mentioned during the game. It's the haters saying anything they can to taint this win. But I didn't know that was the rule. Glad you mentioned it.

Spurt, it may be our American freedom to root for a team outside of your state, but my Texan Native freedom says it just isn't right. I may have Pittsburgh blood running thru me and I may like the Steelers, but I always always always stay true to my Texas teams. No oil and water for me. My Dallas boys are always on top. But I do appreciate our right to disagree. And Pitt didn't win ALL those Superbowls. They are ahead 3-2. I was hoping for another round this year to tie things up.

Now I must go back in hiding. I may be jinxing my team by. I must stay with what's been working.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

From the NFL site...

Many believed Bryant should have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for running on the field without his helmet to argue the call. NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino told Around The NFL on Monday that officials wouldn't have been wrong to do so.

"It's not an automatic penalty. I think the rule that relates to a player taking off his helmet, that's only a player on the field," Blandino told Gregg Rosenthal in a phone interview. "The helmet doesn't matter. It's the official's discretion whether they felt that he was out on the field confronting them in an unsportsmanlike way. In that situation, the officials had some discretion and they felt that it didn't warrant a penalty. They just moved him back onto the sideline."

Whenever I see a coach/player run onto the field to argue a call I think back to when Vermeil was coaching the Eagles. I believe it was his rookie season as head coach and we were playing the Raiders. A call went against the Eagles and Vermeil ran onto the field to argue the call and flags came flying from everywhere. He got nailed with a fifteen yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for stepping on the field. Marion Campbell, then the defensive coordinator had to get between him and the officials to calm him down. A few plays later a call went against the Raiders and John Madden charged out into the center of the field and was screaming at the referee. Vermeil's watching in disbelief from the sideline and runs to an official pointing at Madden standing in the middle of the field. Vermeil literally had just one foot on the field and the official looks down, sees the foot on the field and throws the flag on Vermeil again for unsportsmanlike conduct and they marched off another fifteen yard penalty against the Eagles. It was so absurd even John Madden had to stop arguing with the referee and laugh as he walked back over to his own sideline. Madden was the old vet coach then and could get away with it while Vermeil was a rookie head coach and the officials showed him no respect.

Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

Did I imagine it or didn't the Giants' owners say the other day they were keeping the coaching staff intact? Today they fired the defensive coordinator and DB coach. I'm not sure what changed, but it's a pretty sudden flip.

The Redskins are talking about hiring Wade Philips as their new defensive coordinator which is bad news for Gruden. Wade Phillips always ends up being the interim head coach every place he goes as DC. He's a good defensive coordinator, but somehow within a year or two of his being hired, he's the interim head coach and the head coach is gone. Unfortunately for Wade he then follows the head coach out the door after finishing the season. It'll be interesting to see how Wade adjusts to the newer style offenses in the league. He'll face the Eagles twice a season and more teams are moving to a faster paced offense. A lot of teams are looking towards coaches with recent college experience who have faced such offenses there, but Wade is more old-school. We'll have to see how he can adjust.

The Saints have decided to keep Rob Ryan and try to give him better players. That's interesting. I'm pretty sure 99% of observers thought Rob was gone. I'm not sure what the Saints are hoping to gain by keeping him, but that'll make it interesting watching them this coming season. There definitely seemed to be more than a little tension between Rob and Sean Peyton during the season. The Saints don't have a ton of cap room and I'm pretty sure Brees would like a few more weapons on offense, so where they'll find those players for Rob will be interesting.

Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

Hey SPURT - well, at least we agree on one thing - LOL. Maybe two things, I like the SA Spurs.

You know, they keep trying to make a big thing out of Chris Christies being a fan of the Cowboys & living in another state, but you live in TX & are a fan of the Redskins, so what's the big deal? It's really nobody's business who you root for in a ballgame, right?

Hey G-Man, what's your take on the above opinion - are you ticked off at Christie? I'll bet you are hoping the Cowboys win this Sun. - LOL.

Please, don't anybody jinx us!

Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

Txblond. (Nice to have you back by the way.) Personally, I like Chris Christie and I don't mind him being a fan of another team. I think he might want to tone down his enthusiasm a tad, he's been almost like a schoolgirl meeting a pop star, but I don't mind him being a Cowboy fan.

As to the Cowboys winning this Sunday, it wouldn't bother me at all. The more games they win the farther back in the draft they go. Heck, they can win the Super Bowl and it won't bother me. All of the postseason play just slows down their preparation for next season and since we're out of the playoffs, I'd like to see the Cowboys go far. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, spend the whole off season celebrating, getting fat and lazy, delay needed off season surgery, be forced to overpay to keep their free agents, have less preparation time for the draft/free agency, and then stagger into next season unprepared and undermanned. In fact, it sounds like a good plan to me. Goooo Cowboys!!!!

Re: NFL Wild Card Weekend!!!

I had to laugh; I don't recall Gardenman saying "Goooo Cowboys!!" before. This must be a first. I know the reasoning behind it, but it still seems kind of strange.Smile

Maybe the problem isn't just with Chris Christie being a Cowboys fan; it could be that he was hugging Jerry Jones and making a spectacle of himself. Since I don't know of anyone who actually likes Jerry Jones, that move was criticized. It doesn't matter to me one way or another. Christie has a right to cheer any team he wants, and if he's friends with Jerry Jones, that's his business.
