Michael Sam says he wants to focus on football, but he is going to star in a reality show. It sounds to me like his main priority isn't football. How can this not affect the Rams organization? Not a smart move for Sam. I'll be watching this team to see what happens.

Well what do you know? The Cowboys have peeled back the secrecy and let us know what their draft philosophy was!!! They were looking for players who wouldn't "p*ee their pants." Okay, then. I'm guessing the equipment and laundry guys were happy about that requirement, but I'm not sure how effective a scouting strategy it is. Most teams care about a prospect's 40 time, his achievements, his measurables, etc. Dallas apparently just cares that the guy is toilet trained. (How young are players getting these days anyway?) I'm guessing JJ's move to get Depends to buy ads in the stadium fell through and this is how he's getting revenge. You just know that Tony Siragusa (a Depends spokesman) is going to get lots of razzing about that statement from his colleagues and fans when Fox parks him in the Cowboy end zone.
The Cowboys also recently announced that they didn't draft a quarterback because Tony Romo told them no rookie quarterback could beat him out so they shouldn't waste a pick on one. (Note to Cowboy players: Be sure you bump into JJ before the next draft and advise him that no rookie will beat you out. They won't draft one that way since it would be a wasted pick. Of course, if every player did that they might have to end up drafting cheerleaders instead of football players, but maybe that would work for them.) The role of the GM is to create and foster competition for roster spots. The Cowboys have an older QB who's coming off back surgery and who's best playing days are likely behind him. Not drafting a quarterback because the old guy said not to, is the mark of an inept GM.
I'm thinking the only thing anyone involved in Cowboy management should say is "No comment" whenever anyone asks them any question. It would keep them out of so much trouble. They're really making themselves look like idiots.

Oh boy, so the drama begins. However, I don't pay much attention to so called "quotes" gardenman. They are very often taken out of context. I just find it hard to believe that Romo would say something like that. I would be very disappointed in him if that is exactly what he meant. As for the p*ee, I'll have to check that out. I haven't heard that story. From what you said, I take it as they were looking for players that can handle the December stress, the month the Cowboys pretty much wet themselves. One think I find shocking is the Cowboys expect Romo to have 4 more years in him. It would surprise me if he gets thru this season.

Yellowrose. Steven Jones was on Sirius Radio's "Schein on Sports" show and said referring to Tony Romo: "Everybody had a visit with him along the way. Jerry (Jones) included, myself included, and told him how this is his football team and how much we think of him and with all the rumors flying around not to pay attention to that. His response is, as you might expect from Tony -- it was: 'Well, if you decide to, it ain't going to matter; there's not anybody out there that can beat me out, ''"
Lots of rookie players all around the league are signing their new contracts now. The one really good thing about the new CBA is the lack of holdouts we see from rookies any more. They're signing their contracts within a week or two of being drafted, getting their bonus money, and they have some income.
Miles Austin decided to sign with Cleveland instead of Dallas which is intriguing. Dallas offered an olive branch this past week and said they'd love to have him come back, but he ended up signing with the Browns instead. If, and this is a huge if, Miles can keep his hamstrings functional, the Browns could have gotten themselves a huge help for that offense. I like to think that having had so many issues for so many years that Miles Austin would now be the world's foremost expert on hamstring injuries and how to avoid them, but we'll have to see what happens. If I'm a Browns coach, I'm letting him take as long as he needs to stretch and warm up before moving on with him in practice or drills. Too often coaches get anxious, blow the whistle and move on to the next drill, but there are some guys who need longer to stretch and get warm. With Austin's history, I'd let him take as long as he feels necessary.

Yes gardenman, that was a quote from Stephen, not Tony so I'm giving Tony the benefit of the doubt here. Stephen could have left something out of that quote, or Tony could had said it in a joking manner. Whatever, Stephens mouth is bigger than his daddy's.
Austin certaintly can be a huge help to the Browns, IF he can stay on the field. Problem is he gets hurt so much. I was not disappointed when we said goodbye to him. I will miss hearing that song Miles and Miles at the stadium though.
Happy Weekend Everyone

LOL.......

Oh may the Jones family continue to run the Cowboy's organization for many many many years to come....
Meanwhile the Redskins signed 6 of their 8 draft picks--all except Trent Murphy and Morgan Moses have been signed.....
They curiously added ND QB Tommu Rees
Other undrafted free agents-
NT Chris Davenport Tulane
WR Lee Doss Southern U
WR Cody Hoffman BYU
WR Kofi Hughes Indiana
WR Rashad Northwestern
TE Kevin Perry, Texas El Paso
RB SilasReed, So. Calif
DB Bryan Shepherd N.Dakota State
NT Robert Thomas Arkansas
Here's an interesting tid bit Teganslaw isnt going to like-2nd round pick, Trent Murphy was almost kicked off the Standford team by coach Harbaugh for being too rough with Andrew Luck! Harbaugh threatened to send him on a bus ride back to Arizona...
Third rounder OL Spencer Long wants to be a surgeon
Fifth rounder Ryan Grant accounted for 43.31% of his team's receiving yards.
Coaches have high hopes on fourth round pick CB Breeland, who could likely oust last year's pick Rambo, who struggled mightily and spent the bulk of his first year on the bench. Breeland will be contributing mostly on special teams while he learns the pro-game...
And DeAngelo Hall says that Gruden doesn't have Mike Shanahan's iron fist, he just wants guys to be themselves, play hard, do whats right in the community and win football games..
BTW Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is a Redskin fan and doesnt think the team should change their name.....![]()

And some bad news for the Colts. Robert Mathis has now been suspended for the first four games of the regular season due to failing a drug test. You always wonder a bit about a guy who suddenly starts playing better than they ever had before in the later years of their career. He says the drug was used for a fertility treatment under a doctor's supervision, but the league doesn't seem to be buying it too much. Apparently he didn't apply for an exemption because his doctor told him it wouldn't show up on the test.
The Michael Sams documentary with OWN has now been "postponed." Some silly nonsense about maybe it would be better if he focused on one thing at a time.
The Eagles had a good first day of rookie mini-camp. We've lost a few players for the year in mini-camps before, so I always breathe a sigh of relief when we get through them intact.

The Colts do not need this right now! Mathis took the fertility drug. Clomid, which also happens to be a performance enhancing drug. His doctor had told him that the drug would not cause problems with NFL; time to get a new doctor. Mathis stated that he didn't clear the drug with NFLPA before taking it. As much as I like Mathis, I can't defend him on this. He has been in the league long enough to know how things work. Why didn't he clear it with league first before taking Clomid? Big mistake. Rules are rules, and if broken you pay the price. Some rules are crazy, but that's another story. At least it's only a four game suspension. The downside is that two of those games are against Denver and Philadelphia.
The younger players are going to have to step up now. It's a chance to see what this team is made of. Two of the drafts picks have already been signed: LB Jonathon Newsome and T Ulrick John.
SPURT, about Trent Murphy being too hard on Andrew Luck: can you say "penalty"?
He had better be careful now that he's in the NFL. Referees do not take kindly to players attacking quarterbacks.

Hey Tegan....well sacks are still legal
BTW what's the story with Andrew Luck "crashing" the wedding---on Pardon The Interruption the said that the couple probably had spent $5,000 for the photographer to take wedding photos and Andrew ruined it....they said he dressed liked some homeless guy----I think it was pretty nice that he joined in and agreed to participate in the wedding photos....

Sorry about Mathis---when will these guys learn, like all the pot smoking---risk your NFL career for some weed---try to get a regular job that pays what the NFL pays....
‎05-17-2014 05:01 PM
I saw the photo of Andrew Luck with the wedding couple. a few days ago. They had used a professional photographer. Who said that Luck ruined the photo? He was dressed casually, but the couple asked him to be photographed with them. Luck, being the kind of guy he is, agreed. Maybe the photographer thought Luck ruined it (I don't know for sure), but apparently the couple thought it was a good start for their wedding. Who wouldn't want a photo with Andrew Luck? Except maybe someone who's not a sports fan who who just doesn't like the Colts.
I wonder if Sam's reality show is cancelled or just postponed. I guess the network listened to the complaints.
Mathis did appeal the suspension, but the NFL refused to hear it. The NFL has a strict rule about substance abuse, yet they are re-thinking their opinion on medical marijuana use? I don't have a link, but I read an article about that. Maybe the NFL will eventually revamp their drug rules.
