Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2015!!!

Everyone expected the Colts to do this. It would have been a surprise if they hadn't picked up the fifth year option on Luck.

I'm going to miss seeing Polamalu play; he seemed to be the heart of the Steelers. He should have no problem getting into the Hall of Fame. Not sure if he'd make it on the first ballot, but I expect to see him in there. Also, no one can match his hairstyle. Some players have come close, but not quite gotten it.

Three weeks until the draft. I don't have NFL Network anymore, but should be able to follow the action online with no trouble.

Hi TEGAN---I was happy to see that the Colts locked up Andrew---good QB's are hard to find....just ask me {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Polamalu was a good player, and seemed to be a good guy off the field too.....he will be missed and his funny commercials too....

First Hines Ward and now Polamalu. How sad. But I'm glad they both went out being a Steeler. I hear Hines is opening a restaurant in Pittsburgh. I'm pretty certain it won't be my fav - Tex Mex, but will still be on my must try list.

Hope everyone is having a nice spring. My gardening is all done and looks fabulous.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2015!!!

Yellowrose. My garden is still waiting for the weather to improve. My daffodils are just now flowering after this unending winter. Instead of being staggered over about six to eight weeks as is normal, they're all kind of bursting out at once. In a normal year my first daffodils generally start flowering late February/early March and last until late April. This year the early and mid flowering varieties were pushed back and have collided with the later flowering varieties. It makes a very impressive, but short lived display this way. I've got hundreds of seedlings started under my lights and they're doing nicely, but this has the feel of a spring with a late frost, so I'm going to be a bit more careful in when I put things out. Some years I'll cheat things by two or three weeks ahead of the last frost date, but this has been a cold year and I'm not sure we're done with the cold just yet. I've got six lotus seedlings sprouted and growing in cut off soda bottles atop my freezer, so they'll be a nice project for me. I've been fifty fifty in the past in getting a lotus seedling to flower the first year. With six seedlings I'm hoping several will flower this year.

SPURT. Teams are saying and doing all kinds of stuff where Mariota is concerned. I don't know how many teams are serious about making a move for him. I think if the Redskins were serious they would have adjusted their schedule. It's going to be interesting to see where he ends up. Ron Jaworski is now convinced the Bucs will take Mariota first overall which raises the interesting question of how far will Jameis Winston drop? The kid has some huge red flags and his attorney saying he's not ready to be an NFL player has raised a few eyebrows. I think the Browns will grab Mariota if he falls to twelve and may even move up a bit to get him. I'm not sure how much they want him or want him as bait to get Sam Bradford, but we'll see. Where would Winston go if the top two teams pass on him? He could fall quite a ways. How he handled that mentally would be interesting to see.

I know your yard will be beautiful gardenman. I remember you posting a picture one time. Good luck with your lotus.

As for football, I don't really have much to add to the conversation this time of year. These spring/summer months are my calm before the storm. LOL I'm just waiting to see who ends up on the roster. I'm super excited this year because hubby just took early retirement, so hoping to make a couple AWAY games this year. We'll see how that goes. Happy Gardening

And did you happen to see the Spurs/Rockets game....WHEW!!!! The Spurs won by 1 pt with the game clock winding down....

Emmitt Smith is going to be our Fiesta River Parade Grand Marshal and no I will not be attending.....{#emotions_dlg.laugh}Wink

Happy retirement to your DH!

GARDENMAN---Did you see what Victor Cruz said regarding the opponents in the NFC East....

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2015!!!

SPURT. That Eagles/Giants rivalry has gotten pretty intense over the past few years. We've had a couple of "miracle" wins over the Giants that has them feeling a bit snake bit.

That failed drug test of Gregory's is odd. He swears he'd stopped smoking in time to clear his system, but that he'd smoked so much beforehand that it took longer than normal to clear. Picking him is risky as he's already in stage one of the league's substance abuse program after failing that test. Another lapse or two and he'd be facing substantial suspensions. The guy's got talent but he scares the heck out of me. I'd stay away from him.

The quarterback situation this year is a bit crazy right now. Winston was all but the choice for Tampa (and likely still will be) but who knows? If he starts to fall, then God only knows where he ends up stopping. Much of the player evaluation process until now has involved mainly the front office and scouts. Now the coaches and (God forbid) owners are also involved and that complicates things a lot. One of the daughters of the Bucs owner apparently has raised doubts about Winston and that could be all it takes for them to take Mariota instead. The owners tend to care more about the "face of the organization" and coaches want coachable players, so talent starts to slip back a bit.

GARDENMAN---I love the NFC East rivalries {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

As for the owners and the "face of the organization" I think the owners want to win, but now a days they are more concerned about losing sponsors and what the media will think and how they will be portrayed by the media .............{#emotions_dlg.glare} Personally, I would NOT pick Winston...I would wait for next year's draft and make do with a veteran or back up for now....

I was talking with a friend who used to work at a drug rehab hospital about Gregory and they said there is no way the drugs would stay in his system from December until February....Gregory probably wasn't honest about his "imbibing".....and if he couldn't resist temptation knowing his future NFL career depended on it, he has a serious problem.....I'm glad the mock drafts show the Redskins taking Dante Fowler or Vic Beasley instead and I hope they pass on Gregory....I see lots of suspensions in his future and possible ban from the NFL unless he gets help!

Chargers are working out Colorado State QB Garrett Grayson who is moving up in the draft, but still behind Mariota and Winston......He's also had interviews with the Eagles, Rams, and Raiders.

Let's put you on the hot seat GARDENMAN----With the hiring of the first female ref by the NFL, Bruce Arians said “Someone asked me yesterday, ‘When are we going to have female coaches?’” Arians said. “The minute they can prove they can make a player better, they’ll be hired.” The NBA is years ahead of the NFL in this respect, they've had female refs for many years now, and my Spurs hired Becky Hammon as an assistant coach, but do you think we will ever see a female coach in the NFL in our lifetime? Wink{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2015!!!

Thanks spurt for the Happy Retirement. No I didn't see the Rockets/Spur games. Sounds like I missed a good one. As for the draft, I never pay it much mind (except for last year when I was on pins & needles waiting to see it JJ was going to get Manziel) because I don't know any of the players. I wait and get the reviews from my son in law. Glad you are able to enjoy the wildflowers. Unfortunately in my area we've had so little sun that the bluebonnets came and went in a matter of a week and a half. Very disappointing. Do you actually live in San Antonio? There is some really good Tex Mex eating in that area.

A female coach? I'm all for that. Much more than I'd be for a certain female wannabe President. Zipping my mouth now. Personally I'd much rather be a team owner than a coach. Being out in that heat and sweating....Ugh. Makes for a bad hair day.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Re: NFL News and Notes for April 2015!!!

I suspect we'll see a woman trainer first as there are many of those now operating at the college level. A coach would also have to come up through the collegiate levels and I'm not sure if there are any now at the major college level. There's no reason a woman can't coach in the NFL, but they'll need to get some experience first. Will I see one in my lifetime? It would be easier to answer if I knew how long I'd live. I'm 56 now and getting old fast. It would probably be five to ten years before a woman would be ready to coach in the NFL at the earliest, so if I'm still alive in five to ten years, there's a shot.
