Re: My sister asked about a cardiologist.

Sis had a Dr. appt. yesterday and finally asked her PCP about seeing a cardiologist. It only took and year and a half of me telling her she needed one.

Her leg swelling from the congestive hear failure is somewhat better as is the cellulitis.

Her kidney function is worse.  No Ibuprofin at all.  No idea what she will do for her arthritis pain.  Had to go off Meloxicam awhile ago.

No idea what she will take for her arthritis. She often said some days the Meloxicam is the reason she could get around.

Ibuprofin is bad for kidneys, Aspirin can cause bleeding and Tylenol is bad for the liver. Pain meds that do work are a no, fear of addiction.  What is someone supposed to do for chronic pain?  Put up with it I guess.

Wishing your sister some relief.  Cardio will absolutely prescribe something as safe as possible to help with her arthritis pain and not interfer with what is going on with her heart. Mine does prescribe meds for bone mass but I do have to be tested every few months.  I wanted to share this with you also in case no one had informed you of the benefit of water with arthritis. Hope it helps.  If you suffer from arthritis, gout or joint pain of any description, drinking more water can help your condition for a number of reasons: Water helps to flush toxins out of the body which consequently helps to fight inflammation. It helps keep the joints well lubricated and prevent gout attacks.

@CrazyKittyLvr2  I'm so glad she is going to the cardiologist.  This is good news.  Hopefully she'll like him/her and open up to them about ALL her ailments.  They should be able to coordinate the proper help for her to feel better and be pain free.

Re: My sister asked about a cardiologist.

Thanks to all for your help/suggestions.  It is greatly appreciated.

I have always felt guilty she had so many health issues and I pretty much sailed thru life. I know it was the luck of the ftaw.  Even though I was the larger baby (7lbs.+) she was 5 lbs. something, Dr. said it was just the way she laid in the uterus while forming.

Even with kids, she had fertility issues and took a couple of years and surgeries to get pregnant.  Me, all DH had to do was toss his pants on the bed and bingo.  lol

What I wonder is: did her Primary care not notice these things and reccommend one?

Is this the same sister you are having problems with?

@Group 5 minus 1   Her PCP can't get out of his own way.  He will have her go for a test and never call her if something is wrong.  She aways has to call him.  You can go online and check results but half the time you don't understand the medical jargon.

@goldensrbest   I only have one sister.

Re: My sister asked about a cardiologist.

No, people with chronic pain do not just put up with it.  Why would think that?  There are scores, if not hundreds of pain meds that the general public isn't aware of because we are not physicians and we are not pharmacists. There are Pain Specialists and that's all they deal with, pain.  Patients like your sister with medical issues would be referred to a Pain Specialists who prescribe medications or other modalities to ease her pain.

Your quote above is not the info I know about Tylenol. A person SHOULD NOT take it if they have a severe liver disease. Then it is only dangerous if one over doses on it. And with the suggested Max for adults being 4,000mg per day?

I cannot compare anyone's pain as there are different tolerance levels for everyone. What I can say is there are not very many injuries I have not dealt with during my lifetime, some more painful than others, some are also chronic.

Myself personally, I cannot take any anti-inflammatory meds. That includes aspirin and all NSAID meds. I will not take any Opioid med for pain that I am suffering, or have suffered. Tylenol is it for me. I do not drink alcohol and my liver has no issues. A dose for me when I use it as a "pre or post" exercise reason, is a Max of 400mg. That is at most 3 times a week, more often 1 time a week.

If one has a serious liver disease they surely are aware of it. Again anyone that takes Tylenol, or any of its generics, should know it is not wise to drink a lot of alcohol when doing so.

I am hoping your sister does see a Cardiologist, for her own well being, any also for every one of her loved ones. I appreciate your updating all of us, and am glad she at least saw her PCP.

@chrystaltree

I agree. My nephew, who is an Anesthesiologist, owns 6 Pain Clinics. Of these 3 are in my city, 1 in another city in our state. He also has 1 in California and 1 in South Korea. There is not a pain he has not seen and thousands of patients suffering from them.

He has told me many times there is not a remedy to relieve ALL pain, nor for ALL patients. Ones tolerance to certain pains, he said, can many times be more of a psychological issue than a physical issue. Most of his PAIN FREE successes come with patients that understand that both of these can be, and for many are a factor in their effort to relieve, and/or eliminate their pain.
