as I mentioned elsewhere, the pain doc isn't sure what is causing the pain besides arthritis in shoulder and neck. He said well we can try an epidural injection. Didn't seem too enthused. Then said maybe another MRI would show something.
I awoke in the middle of the night with a moment of clarity. I realized that more expensive tests, procedures and appts will send me further down a rabbit hole. Ortho surgeon suggested another neck surgery to remove bone spurs that *might* be contributing to pain. That involves a lot of risk for an iffy outcome. My decision was to cancel everything and live with a certain amount of pain. The OTC meds and a couple of Rx meds help take the edge off. My pain doesn't incapacitate me. No more surgeries unless necessary to save my life. Hey I'm old. Joints are wearing out. I accept that Im not going to feel like I did when I was young. Actually I'm feeling sort of free and relieved.

I get it! I've been postponing my hip replacement for over 2 years because I need someone to take care of my little dogs and who's going to take care of me. I have rheumatoid arthritis so no stranger to joint pain and everything else associated with it.
It's scary all the tests and surgeries physicians want to do on us. I'm with you, I'm old and trying my best to live with it too.

@smoochy : Totally understand. I have lower back and hip pain and limited in what I can do. I am 71 and have decided reduce taking my pain meds unless really needed. Two doctors told me that PT and surgery would not make a difference. The epidural helped a little. Medicare will pay for a more expensive and bigger wheelchair and not the one the orthopedic doctor stated would be easier for me. Medicare stated a doctor statement not necessary because they have their list of what wheelchair they allow.
I need to first deal with my eye appointment next month and possible surgery.
I am slow but thankfully I can still walk using a walker but it is painful.
I will be praying for you.🤗🙏

I get it your decision.
I also have shoulder pain, but not as extreme as yours. Doctor says I need rotator cuff surgery. Like my cousin's hubby said to me (he needs it too) - Unless the NY Yankees make me an offer I can't refuse ... not doing it. I feel the same way.
I'm sorry you are going thru this. I hope you get some relief.
I'm sorry you are dealing with your hip. I'd help you too if I was closer!

@smoochy. I think you made a wise decision. I've come to the conclusion that a certain amount of aches, pains, discomfort and inconvenience go hand in hand with getting older. I live with it everyday and have also rejected some iffy procedures.

@roeroe1005 I like your logic about the yankees! I too have some shoulder issues and I am good. A little limited in a few things but overall I am OK! Sending healing wishes to all!

in our old age we are all dealing with some kind of medical issues. Goes with the territory. At least we can come here and share with sympathetic folks who understand

I started having frozen shoulder issues before our lifestyle change in 2018. I couldn't raise my arm very far...it was becoming quite limited. Within a year after that, my other shoulder started giving me the same problems.
By 2019, COVID hit...
As much of me thinking at the time I will probably need to have 2 shoulder surgeries to get rid of the pain, I had to wait because of the high COVID #'s at the nearby hospitals.
By late 2021, I started thinking about getting the surgeries, but noticed my pain issues were lowering. By 2022, all the pain from both shoulders were gone...no joke.
By our change in lifestyle, I wound up eliminating all the inflammation I was causing from the 'SAD' ('Standard American Diet' - the upside-down USDA food pyramid) I had previously followed all my life.
I posted about literally countless health issues DH and I both have had that are now gone. On my list of health issues gone is my frozen shoulders.
Doubters?
The bottom line...
Certain types of foods cause inflammation...sugars/grains (even carbs from most fruits/veggies - either because of sugar and/or toxins/oxalates like spinach) and manufactured seed oils.
That's just a fact.
When we stopped ingesting foods that caused inflammation, our health issues went away one by one. Some took just a matter of days, others weeks and still others months. Our bodies were healing from all the cr*p we fed them for DECADES.
As DH & I lowered our carbs, the more health issues that we had went away. Absolutely eye-opening.
Some folks will get my point...most will not.
BTW, the last video I posted, that gentleman also talked about his shoulder issues.

how about researching stem cell therapy? Have you ever heard of it? They take your blood to produce platelet rich plasma --PRP---and inject into your shoulder. It comes from you so there's no rejecting it. It's done in the office in one day. However , Medicare does not cover it and it's about $1100. For the shot. There are 2 places where I live that are specialized in it, both are in pain management as well as sports related practices. In fact one is in the ortho dr I see. I have a bum shoulder that can act up and have had a couple shots that didn't help---my next stop will be to see about this procedure. Recovery is days to a few weeks. Check it out.
