Re: My Dr doesn't like me using Aleve......

When it comes to any medication, one of the most important facts to know is whether the med "clears" through the liver or through the kidneys.  Many NSAIDS clear through the kidneys, hence their propensity for causing kidney failure when used over a long period of time.  Bi-annual labs are always in order for anyone on an NSAID to insure that no organ damage is occurring.

Arnica is in the SportsGel I mentioned, and after it dires, there is no odor.

Re: My Dr doesn't like me using Aleve......

I thought Tylenol was hard on the liver.  I vaguely remember reading something in the news a while ago, or maybe it was Motrin.

I lift weights and get muscle pain.  Aleve is my go to, especially now that they have a PM version.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.

Re: My Dr doesn't like me using Aleve......

Yes, I have some arthritis in my spine.  I have pain 24/7 and Aleve is the only thing that dulls the pain.  It lets me sleep well.  I take it just 3 or 4 times a week.  I do take blood pressure and thyroid meds.  My doc asked me to stop taking the Aleve because it's known to raise blood pressure.  He suggested Tylenol or Motrin.  Sure enough, when I stopped the Aleve, my blood pressure situation improved considerably.  I have an appointment with a spine specialist and with a pain specialist later this month.  I'm not about to sit back and live with pain.  In the interim, if the pain gets to be too much, I'll take Aleve, if I have to.

Re: My Dr doesn't like me using Aleve......

My cardiologist does not allow me to use Aleve either. Just an FYI, Tylenol Rapid Fire in Liquid form works fast and is allowed by all my doctors versus Morphin after sugeries.  It is fast acting and eminates my pain without using addictive pain meds.  Hope this helps some others.

My aunt went to the hospital with spontaneous stomach bleeding, possibly from Alleve she took for arthritis. New warnings about NSAIDS, other than aspirin, involved in heart problems.

From the FDA website:
"• Non-aspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including myocardial infarction and stroke, either of which can be fatal. There are a large number of studies that support this finding, with varying estimates of how much the risk is increased. Estimates of increased risk range from 10 percent to 50 percent or more, depending on the drugs and the doses studied. This risk may occur as early as the first weeks of treatment and may increase with"...

• In general, patients with heart disease or risk factors for it have a greater likelihood of heart attack or stroke following NSAID use than patients without these risk factors because they have a higher risk at baseline.
• Patients treated with NSAIDs following a first heart attack were more likely to die in the first year after the heart attack compared to patients who were not treated with NSAIDs after their first heart attack.
• There is an increased risk of heart failure with NSAID use."
