Of course I've been keeping up with TX COVID stats, well aware that we were in trouble.

However, I, and several of my friends, were surprised when our phones began the screech of an Emergency Alert last night.  I figured it was an Amber alert, since sadly, there seems to be more of them since the pandemic started, with increase in domestic discord and violence.

I was wrong, it was an atypical alert, that in the past,  I never would have dreamed I'd be seeing.  It read:  STAY HOME.  The COVID-19 virus is spreading rapidly across Bexar County.  Local hospitals are approaching capacity.  Protect yourself and your family, out for essential activities only, with a face covering.  Avoid groups of people outside your household.  STAY SAFE.  *Wow, they finally declared it an emergency.*

This was repeated in AM local news.  We have 219 people in ICU, just in my county, with the highest number of positive tests since this all began. And, we're not nearly as bad as Houston, from what I'm hearing.  We're turning into NY.

Fellow Texans beware and stay safe.  For those elsewhere, never let your guard down, regardless of what you may be hearing. This is going to be a long ride.

Strange - it's like the weather alerts from NWS - tornado warnings, etc.

Re: My COVID TX Emergency Alert

I wonder what the relationship is (if any) with all the riots / protests / marches and the increase in COVID stats.

@ValuSkr Yes, exactly, unnerving because we knew it had to be reaching crisis state for them to use the phone emergency system.

After receiving it, I had multiple friends texting, in alarm, 'Did you just get this?' I'm glad they did it because it's a more personal wake-up call.

Re: My COVID TX Emergency Alert

Concerned about my dear friend living in Dallas / Highland Park, but she's working from home and has a pool in her backyard. She told me today (we all agree) she's ready for things to go back to normal.

I called her about a mutual former work friend who's husband just passed of covid19. Great guy. 70s. Played golf and in good shape for his age. Sad.

My hubs will be able to come back to the house this Tuesday, after a 14 day quarantine after testing positive. He was scheduled for routine colonoscopy and his test surprised him. My family tested negative. So grateful myhubs had no symptoms. So very grateful. Living at his parents' empty home. They moved to care facility months ago, before virus. He used his time to get their house ready for market then will give it a month to 'rest' after he leaves and before deep clean.

A guy at work is being quarantined because he was exposed through his wife's family. I read / hear people say they don't know anyone who has been exposed, therefore it must be a hoax. That attitude is so dangerous.

Unpredictable times we live in. I remind myself daily to go with the flow and take precautions. Stay safe everyone.

Re: My COVID TX Emergency Alert

@BlueFinch   That's so scary for you! I'm glad they are alerting people!
My grandson is in Houston and I've been worried. My great granddaughter is a year old and I've never seen her. I'm in VA.

I'm older so I wear a mask and only go out for essentials, groceries, curbside vet. Etc. I haven't seen one granddaughter and her boys since Christmas and now they've moved to S D. Have only seen my youngest grandson once since March and my son just briefly when he leaves things.

I wish for a vaccine as soon as possible! Keep safe!

@ALRATIBA No doubt stats are affected by any mass gatherings. I'll add beach gatherings, political rallies, churches who forego precautions and entertainment districts to the mix. It's just not a good time NOT to be cautious.

@BlueFinch How frightening.  Saying a prayer for your safety, and that of all at risk of this horrible illness.
