I am sorry that you are experiencing such a stressful time . Your mom 's fall and your Aunts death. I send my sympathies to you and your mom. Your mom is safer in the hospital for now and you should let her stay there until she is able to walk on her own .She will probably be wobbly on her feet for a while . She may have experienced a TIA[Trans ishemic attack ]or a small stroke which caused her to black out momentarily and fall.It could happen again. Sometimes there is no evidence on xrays even if this happened . Please take care f yourself and i send best wishes for your mom's recovery. cathy from ma

I am so sorry your mom is in such frail shape. My mom fell a lot in her early 90s too, and the last time she fell was backwards like that, hitting her head on the bed frame requiring stapes and a hospitalization. It was at that point she really lost her memory in a permanent way. I pray that Virginia's memory recovers and she has a good quality of life, and that you can find relief. Sending hugs. It's very hard to watch our once vibrant parents fail.

Halo, my thoughts and prayers are for your Mom and you. I can only imagine how stressed, worried and tired you must be. You're Mom sure has a wonderful daughter in you.

My prayers and thoughts are with you. You should speak with her doctor, that many falls in such a short period and this one being as serious as it was, it might be time to think about nursing homes.

Please let the Social Worker at the hospital advise you. They are so good in helping families who are facing these kind of crisis.

I'm so very sorry for the recent loss of your Aunt, then the horrible fall your Mother had, with a serious head injury. I'll certainly pray for her.
I'd like to bring something up that's often overlooked in some clinical arenas. It happened to a very good friend of mine and now instead of having the brain of a 69 year old, she has the brain of a 95 year old, with many deficiencies.
The subject is "Contrecoup," pronounced "contra coo." This is a type of brain injury which occurs, for instance, when one falls backward and hits the back of the skull on a hard floor. When this happens, the brain speeds forward within the skull and strikes either the inside of the frontal bone or the left or right or both temporal bones on the sides. Striking bones at speed can cause injury to the FORWARD part of the brain, as well as that part of the brain near the occipital bone, which struck the floor.
If it were me and my mother or grandmother, I would want to know that her neruo team had ruled out a "Contracoup" injury to the front part of her brain. If such an injury has occurred, it will require intervention.
I don't mean to add to your angst, but it irritates me so when elders are pushed along too quickly in the system, just to get them home. So...if you think she's not sufficiently improving, ask about the possibility of a contratoup brain injury. You just never know.
God Bless ~ Rebecca

Update on mom: Thank you for all of your prayers. Mom is still in the hospital but she is doing better. No evidence of a sub-dural hematoma. My sister came in from out of state last night so that is a good thing. She is a good support system. She was walking down the hall with her walker today. So if she makes it out of the hospital, the next step is rehab and then to the assisted living facility. Thank you all again for your prayers. They are much appreciated.
