Ok, I have to ask if others have this too.  My sister gets horrible bruising when she uses this as prescribed.  She looks like she's been in a horrible car accident.  Does anyone else use this?  She pretty much cut down on using it, she has to.

I'm just wondering, since I've never seen or known anyone before to have this happen.

I would stop using it, Motrin can cause bleeding, bruising tells me that she is bleeding when she takes it. This drug is not for her.

Mortin is reducing the bloods ability to clot so there is bruising - bleeding under the skin, she should talk to her Dr. about it. An elderly neighbor had awful bruising when he took Motrin along with a perscribed blood thinner.

This is exactly what happened to me when I started a low dose aspirin regime. I looked like I had been in a car accident, she should definitely stop the Motrin.

I would think there would be a level of concern for this much bleeding under the skin.   Motrin sounds too strong for your sisters system if it’s causing this much bleeding.

@QVCkitty1

Motrin is in the NSAID family of drugs, basically similar to other name brands such as Advil. As Ibuprofen, it is an anti-inflammatory, which also acts as a blood thinner.

Because of my major colon bleeding issues I cannot take any type of NSAID drug, for any type of pain. Tylenol is as strong as I will take for any physical pain.

Think it should be pretty obvious after reading these posts that she should ask her doctor about being on a "prescribed blood thinner" and an NSAID. Personally I would quit asap.

Motrin has a blood-thinning action.  Anyone who takes large doses over an extended period of time could have this happen.  Anyone who needed emergency surgery under such conditions might have a surgeon refuse to operate because of hemorrhage risk.

I know heart patients, especially those taking coumadin, are told not to take any of the NSAIDs.

She also needs to look at all of the vitamins and supplements she is taking along with the Motrin. Some supplements may or do cause the blood to thin.
