@Mindy D  Meridia is still legal?  Why wasn't it recalled as the Miss Slim recall was instituted due to the sibutamine...which they both contain. Just no drug without risks that provides a quick fix for losing weight....it would be the money maker of the century.

Meridia is the brand name for Sibutramine.

@phoenixbrd @No, Meridia is not FDA approved for sale or use in the U.S. The diet supplement maker just put the med into its formula. There's a huge trend toward supplements illegally containing RX or banned RX meds in their formulations. The biggest offenders are the in the mens' enhancement category of supplements. They ten contain generic Viagra or Cialis. Many are obtained through mail order. The FDA has been pulling these off shelves for years.

Re: Miss Slim weight loss pills recalled. Contains drug.

I took Meridia VERY SUCCESSFULLY under the watchful eye of my PCP, and lost a LOT of weight, but learned to my horror that the body ultimately adapts to its appetite controlling effects, and Meridia STOPS WORKING!

Ultimately I figured out that the best incentive for weight loss is being the grandma who can get down on the floor AND BACK UP AGAIN, and that was when I lost the 100 pounds that have stayed away.

Meridia DID teach me that there is such a thing when eating, as "enough" rather than "stuffed to the gills".

It was actually helpful for me to learn that.

@violann @Be happy that you were fortunate enough to have the drug stop working for your weight loss instead of you succumbing to any of the side effects that Abbot removed it from the American market for. Most of the side effects were cardiac related.

Ironically though, if you check the rigorously researched rates of actual deaths and damages to obese people who took the drug, they are very low.

The irony is there somewhere, but much too early on a Monday for me to look for it.

Suffice to say, I had no reason to take it when it stopped working for me, it was very expensive, and I stopped taking it.
