Has anyone who has had a hip replacement tried the Essentrics/Aging Backwards Exercise programs from MEW?  I am now able to do most pilates on my Aero machine but I like to alternate with something else.  I can do some of the Essentrics moves but some are really difficult.  I know they have beginner programs which I have been looking into but just wondered if there are any recommendations out there.

I have had both hips replaced.  Never heard of the program you are referring to.  I only do exercises given to me by physical therapists before & after surgery. One surgeon told me to only do "normal" "classic" excercises like swimming, walking, biking, regular weights.  He said do you know how many people a week I see because of exercises trainers tell people to do?

Was also told by a trainer that some yoga poses should not be done by people with hip replacements.

Would check with your surgeon before doing anything new. I questioned mine in detail about what to do.

I’m six months out from having my second hip replacement  and recently discussed this with my surgeon. I was advised to use common sense and stop anything if I feel pain. Was also advised that physical therapy is my best friend and to get as much PT as possible. My therapist comes to my home and we have two goals I’ve yet to meet but other than that I’m good to go.

@AZfem  I also have had both hips replaced....I agree with everything you stated...I would not do anything that might cause a hip to pop out of place or put strain on them. Just not worth taking the chance.  Walking is the best exercise

This happened to a woman I met in the hospital when I had my knee replacement.  She had a hip replaced several months before and returned to her yoga classes despite being told not to be cautious with hip exersizes.  She damaged the hip and had to have it redone with additional tendon repair.
