Im interested in Berberine. Coukd you tell me the brand name and dosage?

I started with AL. One and sometimes two caps per day. That got too expensive so I switched to one that I could afford from pipingrock dot com. I usually take one per day and sometimes two depending on how much carbs I eat that day. Here's what the label says on the back of the bottle:

Supplement Facts
Serving Size:  1 Quick Release Capsule
Servings Per Container:  120
  AmountPer Serving % DailyValue(DV)
Berberine HCl400 mg*
Other Ingredients: Gelatin Capsule, Rice Powder, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Silica.
Directions: For adults, take one (1) quick release capsules one to two times daily, preferably with meals.
WARNING: If you are pregnant, nursing or taking any medications, consult your doctor before use. If any adverse reactions occur, immediately stop using this product and consult your doctor. If seal under cap is damaged or missing, do not use. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
* Daily Value (DV) not established.

There are many brands of berberine on the market. I chose this one because I have bought other products from them in the past with no problems. They have $3.95 flat-rate shipping. @meem120

Note about berberine - berberine is a known mild form of antibiotic. It was used in ancient medicine as a 'cure' for diarrhea. Please be aware that continued and prolonged use may disrupt the normal flora in your gut. I suggest taking this supp in scheduled periods at a time in order for your gut to recover from it's antibiotic effect. I take it 7 days on, 7 days off. As with any supp you may want to discuss it with your doctor.

you can google a great article written by Dr. Denese regarding all the benefits of Metformin....        I then ask my doctor about it and she happily prescribed it for me and I don't have diabetes.

I've been on it for two years.  Borderline glucose, hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, surgery for hyperparathyroidism.....basically my whole metabolism is a hot mess.

I had some intestinal issues for the first few months, on and off.  But, my body eventually settled down and got used to it.

My A1C has been below 6.  I watch what I eat 90% of the time, but I do cheat once in a while.  I occasionally need some chocolate.  Smiley Wink

I was hopeful at the studies that showed it lowered Alzheimer's risk, because it runs on my mother's side of the family.  However, the more recent studies say it may increase risk of Alzheimer's.  Who knows.  For me, controlling my glucose levels, and preserving my beta cells in my pancreas, are more important.

I was prescribed a statin then that caused my A1C to go up and it put me in the pre-diabetic status. My doc suggested metformin and I refused and asked my doc to give me a year to get it my numbers in order. My doc agreed and said if my numbers don't come back where they should be then the statin and metformin would be prescribed indefinitely.

I'm happy to say that I got my numbers where they should be and I no longer need the statin or have the need to take metformin. What I take is berberine and that takes care of both my cholesterol and my blood sugar. My doc was very impressed and asked about the berberine.  I left the doctor's office that day feeling good about everything.Woman Happy

There is a lot of biomedical terms and descriptions in this very good article but just skim over to the direct and important statements near the end of paragraphs and in conclusions.

I believe that someday, possibly soon, berberine will be made available as a Rx treatment for diabetes and for cardiovascular health. The FDA has been researching berberine for quite a while now and it's just a matter of time until they approve it as a drug as they did with metformin. Both are herbal extracts. It may be formulated into a medication that contains both metformin and berberine as an option or be made as a single component Rx. In any case the future looks very promising for berberine. @granddi

@QVCkitty1  I have been on it for about 5 years.  For about the first year, I had an upset stomach everyday at 11 am but it eventually went away.  It has worked for me in keeping the a1c down.  I hope you have good luck with it.

My DH couldn't take it.  He had terrible stomach issues and never did adjust.  It was so bad, we couldn't go out to dinner or anything.  He tried for a year and they finally changed meds for him.
