All mine started when I was around 40 or so. I don't have any of the hot flashes or night sweats. I'm still using Emerita bioidentical progesterone cream & take EPO (evening primrose oil). They make me a terrible person which I'm not.

@Nightowlz You sound like me. I was on HRT for years with no problem. Now I can't get my hormones balanced for squat. It's getting really annoying, I'm having all kinds of symptoms. Hope you can sort it out.

hystersistersdotcom is a great resource that thousands of women belong to. It was invaluable to me (way past it now, lol) when I was in perimenopause, i.e. going through menopause. Lots of helpful advice from those who have been there and done it, from symptoms to surgery.

Another source of info that can answer many questions with a touch of humor is a book titled "Could it be...Perimenopause?" by Steven Goldstein and Laurie Ashner. You might be very surprised at symptoms you never connected to menopause, ARE connected.

@Reba055 I saw my doctor yesterday I got no help. He said that Ins would not pay for HRT or testing. I wanted to get my iron checked but he said Ins would not pay for it because he had no reason to test me for it. I told him I did not want HRT & that if I decided to move forward it would be BHRT. He recommend a clinic that's a 3 hr round trip drive for me. The costs range from $2,400 - $3,000 the 1st yr & $1,600 - $2400 yearly after that for the tests & hormones. It would be a pain the 1st yr going for the 1st visit, again in 4 wks, again at 7 wks & 8 wks + semi & annual testing. Looks like just semi annual & annual testing after that unless you are having problems. I need to find out if I go this route if I will have a period again. I don't want that. Guess you cannot have your cake & eat it too.

@Nightowlz Sorry, sounds like a not so helpful doc. I don't know your insurance of course, but they typically pay for HRT and bloodwork. Keep in mind that the prescription HRT today like vivelle and minivivelle patches, oral estradiol, and gels are considered bioidentical. Premarin was the drug that used to be prescribed that was not.

Have you checked with your insurance? Do you have other options for doctors in your area. For instance, the comment about the iron testing. Yes, they will pay if you have symptoms that could possibly be low iron. They know that and know how to code the paperwork. Sounds like he wasn't interested in checking it. Was this an OB/Gyn??

You shouldn't have to go to an expensive hormone replacement clinic to get some answers. Many of us use compounded hormones, but a regular doc can prescribe that as well. For instance, testosterone cream is always compounded. Good luck. I would find out from my insurance just what they cover.

@Reba055 I plan to call the Ins co to find out what they cover. Not any alternatives that I know of around here.

I did get help from my OB/Gyn years ago but she retired because of Ins rates. I was only using progesterone cream that was compounded then. No help from the current OB/Gyn.

I've gone through menopause & need more then just progesterone.

My doctor told me Ins no longer covers HRT let alone BHRT. He's moving his practice to another town where he grew up so I have another doctor but won't see him until Oct. Doubt I will get any help there either. They are just a D.O. doctor I see to have labs so I can get a refill on my thyroid medication. The only Endrocologist in town will not see me.

I did not know the doctors could prescribe vivelle and minivivelle patches, oral estradiol, and gels are considered bioidentical. I will be researching these & go from there. Thx for the info.

Forgot to say the doctor told me they would not pay for the iron testing because there was no reason for me to have it done. I told him I'm hypothyroid & my hair is falling out. He said since my RBC was just a little over the range that my Iron would not be low. I figured I was probably low since I have not been eating much red meat & I thought our bodies did not make it. Not sure what other food sources that have much iron in them other then cereal that I don't eat.

@Nightowlz I'm sorry your access to physicians is so limited. We have hundreds in every specialty if not more. That makes it very difficult. Best of luck to you.

Where did my flat tummy go?   I have this little pouch now.   I'm fit otherwise.  I walk an hour a day, do strength training, eat well, hardly any sweets, but I have an extended tummy.    I can't fit into pants that I could wear a year ago.  It's so depressing.   I'm in my early 50's.

It seemed to happen overnight.   I take probiotics, but it seems to stay.  I do eat a lot of whole grains, but it has made me so self conscious.  I have to buy Denim & co pants with elastic.

It's criminal what happens to women as we age.  We have to endure so many years of our periods, and then we are stuck suffering after that.

I say run don't walk to Women's Wellness by Andrew Lessman.

I have suffered for years and years and years.  Been to lots of Docs, they would just shrug their shoulders, can't have hormones.  I have always been "hotblooded"  but the sweating is gross.  I would call the nights "super soakers."  I own stock in sweatbands, do-rags and misting spray bottles.

I have a fan in each room and I carry a small portable, and still use them.  But since I began Andrew's potion I am so very much better.  I can actually keep my jacket on at the grocery store like everyone else and last weekend I zipped it up in the refridgerated section.  I was stunned.

Getting better occured right away to.  Hope you get better too!
