Menopause and Iron Deficiency

I was recently diagnosed with a low iron count and was very surprised since I am 10 years into menopause. I am in the process of trying to find out what is causing the deficiency and plan to see a gastroenterologist but wonder if anyone else has had this diagnosis and if they have discovered what is causing it. Thanks!
