Re: Melatonin Help/Information.

And regarding the fact that melatonin is a hormone...

my pharmacist said some women experience hot flashes and other hormone-associated problems

when they introduce melatonin to their system.

(From the link I posted: "...melatonin does more than influence sleep.

Melatonin also regulates the start of menstruation, the length of ovulation cycles and menopause... ")

I've used it in the past, and even though I'm not usually sensitive to meds I found that it caused my depression to worsen and it also triggered headaches.

I hope this info is helpful.Smile

Re: Melatonin Help/Information.

1 mg. of melatonin is recommended vs. 3 mg. The more is not the better! I've read into it. It's difficult to find 1 mg. but that is the ideal.

Thank you, Win. Smiley Happy I found one on Amazon. And now I'm forgetting the name. I think the blends that some posters have mentioned more often contain the lower mgs b/c they are blended with other ingredients.

Thanks again, everyone. Of course there are so many resources for information these days, but I love hearing from my Board friends here. Love hearing your own, personal experiences. Thank you!

Re: Melatonin Help/Information.

I used to take one 500mcg Trader Joe's version of Melatonin. Took it for a long time. I did have more vivid dreams on occasion, but not all the time. Eventually, I stopped taking it an have been taking 1/2 of a Unisom tablet. I take it every night, rather than risk tossing and turning to get to sleep. No side effects at all that I've detected from the Unisom. I buy it in the tablet form so that I can cut it in half. Sometimes, I can find Target's version, which seems equal. I'll probably go back to the Melatonin in the near future, just to change things up.

DooBdoo--This is incredibly helpful info. Smiley Happy Thank you, thank you! I have issues with anxiety, as well as mild-moderate depression. This is very good to know. I still would be interested in trying a low-dose of the melatonin just to see how I felt and if it did, in fact, help me sleep. But I am quick to abandon something if I find that it is producing side effects that I cannot deal with.
