I hope it doesn't come back.

On 1/28/2015 Pezzie said: Was reading an op-ed piece this morning on USA Today, regarding the issue of vaccines. " Regarding infectious disease, your right to be sick, ends where my right to be healthy begins." I concur with that statement.
And that's the bottom line, imo.
The other day my daughter told me a father is suing a school (Southern California?) for allowing non-vaccinated children to attend.
His son is fighting leukemia and measles could kill him

If someone honestly thinks that the shots could cause autism, I can understand trying to protect the rest of your children and taking their chances by avoiding the shots.
I honestly think the moon is made of green cheese.
There is no scientific proof that vaccines cause autism. But unvaccinated kids DO die from measles, mumps, whooping cough, etc.
terrier is correct, there is no study that shows a connection between vaccines and autism.
Sure, a kid can get a vaccine and later have autism. No connection. A kid can also have ice cream and later be diagnosed with autism. Or a candy bar, or a baked potato. That does not mean cause and effect.
I am far from an expert and do not know enough to defend either position. But I will say that if there were a study that linked vaccines to autism, do you think the public would even hear about it? Can you imagine the lawsuits? I think the medical community and/or the government would do anything and everything to keep that information from coming out. Not a conspiracy theorist, I just do not trust all those in charge.
That is a conspiracy theory, especially the part about the public not hearing about it.
Yes, I think the public would hear about it, because:
1) Independent studies have been done which show no connection.
2) It would not be economically feasible to allow the rise in autism to continue.

Measles Outbreak Has Arizona Tracking 1,000 Who Might Have Been Exposed
Arizona health officials were tracking more than 1,000 people on Thursday, including at least 195 children, who might have been exposed to measles as part of an outbreak that began at Disneyland in Southern California.
Arizona has seven confirmed cases of measles, and officials in three counties in the Phoenix area — Maricopa, Gila and Pinal — are asking residents who have not been vaccinated and who might have been exposed, to stay home from school, work or day care for 21 days.
The announcement comes as thousands of people are arriving in Phoenix for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

As the measles outbreak grows, here's a sobering film review about polio and vaccines:
Film Review: When There Was No Vaccine
2/6/15
"Within the living memory of the oldest Baby Boomers is a terrifying specter that haunted childhood in America. It was a disease, a disease that could have no symptoms, or could begin with a chill and then cripple or kill the victim. It could spring up at school, at a birthday party, at a summertime swimming pool. It mostly affected children, but it also paralyzed a future president, Franklin Roosevelt, who surmounted it but never recovered from it. It infected tens of thousands of new victims a year in the decade after World War II. There was no cure and there was no vaccine. The disease is polio.
With the anti-vaxxers holding sway among today’s stupid set, Nina Gilden Seavey’s 1998 documentary A Paralyzing Fear: The Story of Polio In America, now streaming on Amazon and Snag Films, is a timely and urgent reminder of the heartbreaking effects of an unchecked, brutal virus...
...The terrifying potential consequences are on view in the history captured in A Paralyzing Fear. That history must be seen, and its repetition must be prevented. As one of the interviewed victims says of the vaccine, “For me, it was too little, too late. But I was glad that nobody else would have to go through this.”
See the film, and vaccinate your kids."

California warns against intentional measles exposures
(Reuters) - California health officials on Monday warned parents against intentionally exposing their children to measles, which could worsen an outbreak in the state.
In response to media inquiries about so-called measles parties, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) said it did not have information on the parties or their frequency.
But it added that the disease, of which 107 cases have been confirmed since an outbreak began late last year, was serious.
"CDPH strongly recommends against the intentional exposure of children to measles as it unnecessarily places the exposed children at potentially grave risk and could contribute to further spread," said department spokeswoman Anita Gore.
In 2011, federal authorities issued stern warnings following media reports that vaccine-wary parents were trading chicken pox-laced lollipops by mail, in misguided efforts to build children's immunity through exposure to the virus.
