There are 78 children infected with measles, I haven't heard any reporting on adults. I'm guessing that's because most adults have been vaccinated.
I remember having mumps and the fear of infecting adults. It was so dangerous then and often caused sterility.
Personally, as a child, I had measles, mumps and rubella, all in a row, which was really serious.

Here in California it is called the school vaccination waiver and it doesn't just apply to religious beliefs or medical reasons. Any parent can use it. This is a very dangerous precedent . The younger generations have never seen some of the horrible results from these diseases. They don't remember the fear of polio that every parent had back in the day. Sadly, looks like we may have a very rude awakening for some of them. GET YOUR CHILDREN VACCINATED!!!!
I agree. It's especially scary because of the threat of bioterrorism. I don't know how much of a threat this is, but after 9/11 there was a lot of talk about this, especially involving smallpox. They don't give that vaccination anymore, though. Kids should not enter school without vaccinations.

Thanks for the info Jackie, I didn't know that. Good grief. Even at the age of 68 I am still continuously amazed that I forget that we are called the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, but in reality we are all governed by our own state.
That is pathetic that each state does not REQUIRE everyone to vaccinate their child. It is pathetic that each parent does not vaccinate their child.
Jackie, you speak very eloquently and yet plain enough to make people understand how very important it is to have a child vaccinated.
You are right, the younger generations haven't seen many, many young children unable to walk because of polio. They haven't seen the terrible things that can happen with mumps, men no longer able to have children because of mumps, people loosing their hearing due to measles.
These idiots think you just get some scars from chickenpox. They have no idea how terrible it is. I had everything except (thank GOD) polio.
I did also have Scarlet Fever. My brother and I both had it. It damaged our hearts which we now pay for.
What these idiots don't realize is that you do pay when you get these diesease, they stay in your body, they don't leave your body.
What in the heck do they think shingles are? Maybe they've never had a parent who's gotten shingles. I have. Believe me. My Mother had it. My Vet's wife had it (she was pretty young too). Lost her hearing (most of it). She couldn't walk for maybe a year. It is more than just a few blisters.
I won't bore any of you further.
Get the freaking shot all of you. Plain and simple. You will bring that @#$ home to your older family members if nothing else.
Do you not understand who devestating that will be to your older family members? When they die how will you feel? The older you get the more difficult it is to fight off this.

I'm only seeing brief mentions of adult measles. They stress measles are harder on adults than on children.

Javala, My husband works for Border and Immigration and we live in SoCal,so , believe me, we are not happy about any of this illegal problem. However, the highest rate of children not being vaccinated here in Southern California is in the higher income areas. One of the schools here in south Orange County(which is very affluent) has a 57% non-vaccination rate. Schools with a high immigrant population ? Their rates are much lower.

Select 100 mice, or another animal. Check the animal blood for Vitamin A, and bring the vitamin A level to certain, varied, and pre-determined levels in 50 of the animals. Do not supplement the remaining 50 animals with Vitamin A. Then, find out if the levels of Vitamin A established in the animals in any way correlated with protection from measles after actually exposing all 100 of the animals to measles. If Vitamin A could actually reduce the incidence of measles cases, in spite of exposure to measles, it would be a wonderful thing to discover. I'm not saying it would. I have no idea what the result of such an experiment would be. I would like to know what effect different blood levels of Vitamin A might or might not have on measles infection rates.
Vitamin A is used a a treatment for measles, as it is known to reduce the severity of diagnosed measles cases and reduce complications from the virus.
Interestingly, measles virus depletes the Vitamin A stored in a person's body when they are infected with the virus, too. There is a definite interplay between measles and Vitamin A that needs to be better understood.

If vitamin A deficiency was a problem in the US we would be seeing childhood blindness here. We're not. It's that simple.
But if you have young children, be sure to ask your pediatrician to test them for A, if only to put your mind at ease.
Since many believe that the US is not deficient in Vitamin A than it is getting here some how did some of us forget about the influx this summer at the borders this Summer and now the chickens are coming home to roost as the saying goes....

Vitamin A deficiency is due to MALNUTRITION. NOT anyone coming over the boarders.
IF & WHEN people come over the boarders carrying diseases like measles, we have to have a vaccinated population to fight those illnesses.

Last week, the CDC released the 2012 National and State NIS Data for Children, for ages 19 to 35 months. The report indicated that 90% of children in the U.S. are fully immunized for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); polio; Hepatitis B and varicella. Additionally while only 0.8% of children surveyed were completely unvaccinated, the economic disparities that often accompany vaccine uptake have seem to narrow compared to what we’ve seen in the past.
Dr. Anne Schuchat, who directs the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC ...
I suspect the rate of unvaccinated children might be slightly higher now since that report was two years ago.
We need to have all of America's children protected as much as possible unless there is a medical reason for them not to be vaccinated.

I'm glad I read your report, it includes WHY we are still seeing outbreaks.
"When looking at a complete rundown of the cases, it’s clear that many are a result of unvaccinated individuals who return to the U.S. after traveling to another country and contracting measles there. What we’re seeing is that about 82% of these cases involved people who were unvaccinated (82%) and another 9% who had unknown immuni..."
In other words, the outbreak was NOT started by those coming over our border, the outbreaks were started by those GOING from America to other countries and BRINGING IT BACK to America.
Additional info from your site:
"While an unvaccinated child is 35 times more likely to contract measles as compared to a vaccinated child, as long as the disease is circulating it remains a threat to everyone. We must acknowledge that vaccines are not 100% effective, 100% of the time, which explains why parents of vaccinated children are still concerned about their children contracting a disease, especially if they are surrounded by others who are unvaccinated."

Jackielee-I know what you are saying and appreciate your point of view, and my POV is if people are not going to get the vaccination, than they need to fortify their Immune system with natural probiotics, it comes in many forums, even delicious fermented foods.
Probiotics help with bacteria but will not help fight a virus. They will help with digestion in either case, though. Measles is a virus.

Also, a bunch of upper crust, organic food eating Moms who won't vaccinate their kids aren't making sure their kids get enough Vitamin A so that is why they are getting measles and it's NOT because they didn't vaccinate their kids?
No. There is no logic in that.
There was an interview with Doctors Without Borders who said
that the first thing that they do when they visit a Developing
Country is to vaccinate the children and some adults.
They said that they are so angry that a few idiots encouraged
parents NOT to vaccinate their children...
