My current doctor recently retired and gave me a list of names of other doctors I could go to. Unfortunately, all of those Dr. had bad reviews when I looked them up. So now I am searching for a new Doctor. Well, it was time for my Mammogram so I called to schedule and when I told her my Dr. retired the office said they couldn't do it unless I had a PCP. This office always sent me the results any way so if I saw I had a problem I could call a specialist. I was so surprised that they flat out refused me. Has anyone else here had this happen to them?

I ALWAYS need to have my PCP send over an order for my annual mammogram or else they won't schedule it.

From what I understand you have to have an order or referral from your PCP for any procedure now. Even routine lab work. That's what it is where I live.

I would imagine they need a doctors order to do the mammo.

I need to have on file an Ob/Gyn or PCP without 1 or the other no test.

Yes, of course you need a referral for a mammogram. The "bad reviews" where were these? In Yelp? I'd try them anyway, make up your own mind. Yelp is not reliable. IME.

They need your PCP so they can get a referral for the mammogram. If your PCP retired, I'm sure you were notified so that you could transfer to a new PCP. Because....you need a PCP for things like this. Hence the notification. What bad reviews are you referring to? Yelp reviews....LOL

I hear ya about bad reviews, galore!
Similar experience with a derm. Tried switching to a new derm closer to me and while my insurance doesn't require a referral, the new dr did. Go figure.
I skipped this dr and found another but I probably won't revisit him.
Reviews, I mostly use Health Grades. My ins also has patient reviews on their site within the last yr.

We have terrific health care technology-wise, but the management and the paperwork, not so much.

Of course you would need an MD referral for a mammogram. Insurance won't pay them otherwise.
