Re: MEDICARE AND HEARING AIDES

My father's were not covered and this is going back over 12 years ago, they were around $2500.

Boy, was he mad when he left them laying on the coffee table and the dog ate one!

Re: MEDICARE AND HEARING AIDES

@CelticCrafter   I’ll bet he was livid. They should have been in his ears, not on the coffee table. ( just kidding)

 A couple of my immediate family members wore hearing aids.  Way back then the cost of batteries was probably more expensive per year than the hearing aid.  My mother sometimes needed a new battery twice a day.

i remember walking through the house listening to the hearing aids whisle.  They drove me crazy.

The newer ones are so much better. My DH needs one now, but he is in denial.

@Lindsays Grandma  You say you don't have an Advantage plan.  Do you have a Medicare supplement?  Your supplement might cover hearing aids.  Again, you would need to call the company that your supplement is with to get your answer.  If you only have original Medicare with no supplement you will not be covered.  Most people have a supplement or an Advantage plan.

I have original Medicare A and B with a Plan F supplement.  The supplement does not cover what Medicare does not cover.

Who is your Plan F through? I also have Medicare A & B with Plan F through BC-BS. I've had seizures all my life.  By 58, I was also diagnosed with lupus and diabetes. I choose Blue Cross-Blue Shield as my supplemental policy for their life-time coverage (as long as I pay the monthly premiums they cannot cancel me due to health issues). With a compromised immune system, I need that guarantee! I'm now 69 and have been to many specialists, hospitalized, surgeries, xrays, bones reset, and simple routine office visits with the above coverage. I have never paid a penney for any medical services other than my monthly premiums. My prescriptions (Part D of Medicare) are through Silverscript. Of course I take many meds, but it saves me a lot of money and is worth that premium, too.

I checked into insurance policies through my BC-BS supplement and decided it was more cost effective to pay as I go. Those policies didn't cover the major dental expenses until a 2-3 year waiting period; then they only paid a rather small portion of the expense. Not worth it IMO. Same with the vision insurance. Due to my lupus medications and diabetes, it's necessary to have eye exams on a frequent basis. Therefore, I have been fortunate to have my eye exams paid in full by Medicare and BC-BS. Hearing aids (if ever needed) I expect to be out-of-pocket expenses.

Go on-line and read thoroughly about Medicare, as well as your supplemental policy. You need to educate yourself. No one else is able to do that for you and your specific needs.

My supplement is with Aetna and I am very happy with it.  When I broke my hip and spent one month in rehab after surgery and six months of home therapy I didn't pay one penny out of pocket.  Same with my cataract surgery.  I am not thrilled with AARP RX UHC Plan D and will look into a change.

@Carmie

WOW!

I've been wearing hearing aids for going on 12 years and never had to buy batteries.  I go in every three months to have the devices cleaned and checked and audiologist gives me enough hearing aids for the following three months!  No charge for service or batteries.  All included with the purchase of the hearing aids.

I need to change the batteries about every five days ...
