Hi--FYI, there is a very interesting research study at the Journal of Clinical Investigation web site (www jci dot org) regarding how low blood sugar levels can trigger binge eating in some people. Apparently, there are effects on several areas of the brain when blood sugar drops, including the prefrontal cortex which affects impulse control. These findings were measured on MRI.
There is a link to the study on the home page, and it can be read for free. I think that the readers here can handle the medical language.
I'm always telling my clients that eating too little, feeling deprived and waiting too long between meals is a sure path to overeating for exactly this reason. Obviously, discipline, portion control and creating a non-emotional relationship with food are a big part of weight loss and maintenance. However, regulating blood sugar with low-glycemic foods during the day will help achieve this.
